Swagato Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Hi all, Apologies if there's a list elsewhere on the forum, but could we put together a decent list of the top/notable journals in the field? It need not be US-specific, of course. I'm interest both in the storied ones and any new ones that have drawn attention. Feel free to include interdisciplinary ones like Critical Inquiry. EloiseGC 1
ArtHistoryandMuseum Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 For my focus of decorative arts and furniture, I've just discovered access through my museum's library to: "Winterthur Portfolio - A Journal of American Material Culture." Swagato 1
EloiseGC Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) Well, there's always the CAA's (aptly named) "Art Journal"! Edited May 15, 2013 by Mary Queen of Scotch poliscar and Swagato 2
poliscar Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 RES: Anthropology and Aesthetics, Grey Room, October, Representations, Word and Image, Texte zur Kunst, Oxford Art Journal, PAJ: A Journal of Performance and Art, diacritics, boundary 2, Common Knowledge, Art History, New German Critique, Studies in Iconography, The Journal of Modern Craft, The Getty Research Journal, The Art Bulletin... Off the top of my head atm. Swagato 1
Swagato Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Awesome, do keep the names coming in. poliscar's list is especially interesting, since it contains many journals that have featured, or continue to feature, numerous articles in film studies. October, Grey Room, diacritics, boundary 2, and New German Critique especially so.
ArtHistoryandMuseum Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Chipstone Foundation's Ceramics in America, as well as American Furniture. poliscar 1
poliscar Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 PMLA is also excellent, particularly for Film Studies and Theory. Swagato 1

BuddingScholar Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Great idea! here is my fifty cents contribution... - Yale French studies... though not an art historical journal per se, it has often published some really interesting art history articles. - History of Photography - Cinema Journal - Archives of American Art Swagato 1
