RedRight88 Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Anyone heading to Mac this fall? I will be doing my MA in International Relations.
Postan92 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Wow... this thread hasn't been posting by anyone... Well I'm here to change that! I'm going to head to Mac this fall for a Masters in Biology. Will be working with bacterial genes with my supervisor and I already have a part time summer job lined up with him! I hope there's more Mac people for this fall!
PeterH Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Ha! Somehow, I feel a thread about Mac with only one post is appropriate. Oh heck, let's see what we can do about that. I'm heading to Mac this fall to start a Master's in Physics. I have a great supervisor, but I foresee a lot of Skype in the future, since he's going to be at CERN all year. I'll be coming from Ottawa, so it's out of town, but not too far.
reinhard Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Yeah here, still ttrying to figure out how to find a place lol?
PeterH Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Yeah here, still ttrying to figure out how to find a place lol? I'm not entirely sure I understand that sentence. I think I have a good idea of how I'm going to go about finding a place (i.e., lots of googling, and then a visit in person for a couple of days in July). I'd be interested to hear how others are planning to make their living arrangements though.

I'd be interested to hear how others are planning to make their living arrangements though. I am worried about getting familiar with the city and getting around. I think I might do the same thing you do. Make a list of potential places, stay at a motel for 3 days and go out and look. I also hate the fact that i can't cook in the motel...
PeterH Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I wouldn't be comfortable signing a lease without actually seeing the room in person. As for cooking in the motel... Something you might want to think about is staying at McMaster. I'm not 100% sure how it works, but usually schools will rent out their residences on a daily/weekly basis during the summer, so you might be able to stay there and have a kitchen.

Have you been to the city before? How do you plan on getting around? Are you already familiar with the bus routes and schedules?
mirah56 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Hey! I'm a Mac alum, still living in Hamilton (actually down the street from Mac) If you guys have any questions about the area, feel free to send me a message!
PeterH Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Have you been to the city before? How do you plan on getting around? Are you already familiar with the bus routes and schedules? I visited McMaster for a day in March. The Physics department arranged the whole thing, and it was really quite a good time. I stayed very close to the school though, so I didn't see much of the city at all. When I visit in July, I'll drive down, so I'll have a car while I'm visiting, but I will eventually have to work out their transit system. Hey! mirah56 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The transit system is quite good - there are bus routes that come through campus, quite frequently during peak times. No 24 hour routes though.

I have a really weird question. Do you know (or happen to know) what rooms at MAC has white boards? I watched a couple of YouTube videos inside the university and found most classrooms use blackboards. Also are there any open computer labs at the university? Library is excluded from this discussion...
mirah56 Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Do you mean classrooms? I know the older buildings have blackboards, not quite sure about the newer buildings and certainly the buildings that have come out after my time there. I know the school of business has a computer lab and I *think* one of the buildings (I want to say in the basement/maze of Kenneth Taylor hall) - otherwise the libraries do have tons of open computers for use.
reinhard Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Anyone thinking of using http://www.airwaystransit.com/locations.shtml to come to Hamilton? How reliable are these guys, does anyone know?
mirah56 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I see their vans all around - pretty reputable company
reinhard Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) I see their vans all around - pretty reputable company After googling for an entire hour, I am gonna give up and ask you. Do you know if MAC has a cycling club that loan bikes? The closet I have got to so far is http://www.marauders.ca/sports/2011/5/18/Cycle_0518112619.aspx. I got troll'd hard. Edited July 3, 2014 by reinhard
mirah56 Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 the McMaster Students Union does have a cycling club, called MACycle. I don't think they rent bikes though. Their website (and info) is here - https://www.msumcmaster.ca/services-directory/12-macycle You'd have to pay for a membership (5$) and there is a contact email as well. Another thing is the MSU is for undergrads - not sure if you can become a member as a grad - again, you can ask the question! Hope that helps
vicky25 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 What are the minimum GRE TOEFL or IELTS requirements for admission McMasters I am looking for admission in nursing program.
