Haha, I'm refreshing this forum every 2 minutes. I figure I'd probably hear from you guys here first, even before I hear from them...

While we wait, who's up for killing time by comparing stats?

HAHAHAH jk.

I just have this feeling that it's not gonna be today! I hope I'm wrong though!

Well, I did get the Penn notification at 12:30 am CT...do we expect this one to be different? It seems like people from previous years received calls.

In the meantime, who wants to share life stories! I feel like those who apply for international ed programs always have interesting (international) experience.

I grew up in 3 different countries and experienced these 3 different educational systems. This, and experiences volunteering outside of my cities of residence, ignited in me a passion for considering education comparatively. However, I have no "formal" experience teaching abroad (there goes my Stanford acceptance...)

I come from a tiny country, was an exchange student in US as high school student and then did one year non degree during my undergrad, both fully funded :)

Currently, I work for a private school that is part of a network of schools around the world, so I get to travel to all these schools all over various countries. I did an internship at a charter school in US. My biggest concern is that my undergrad is a local university, which is totally unknown to anyone in US, the only thing that helps is that my non degree year was at a pretty recognizable US university.

That's awesome. To be honest, from what I imagine to be a Stanford point of view, coming from a tiny country = huge points for diversity...not that you wouldn't already be uniquely qualified.

Thanks for encouragement.

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Also fellow ICE applier, also FREAKING OUT ALL DAY.

On Stanford's website it says non-STEP admissions don't come out until after March 15, which aligns with Teacher's College and UCLA GSE (other 2 places I applied to). That seems extremely late considering previous years.

Also, last year's ICE cohort for MA was 14 people I believe.

Also, Phil 413 & WorldTraveler - great to hear your stories! Awesome backgrounds. My own interest in education comes through my research and work experience in urban ed while at UCLA and now my work with an international NGO. I don't have international experience myself, which I'm worried probably hampers me quite a bit for Stanford, but who knows? I hope we all get in!

On website it also says March 1st for STEP, but the decisons were much earlier. So hoping we hear earlier.

Sounds like ICE is particularly competitive - surprised there are no POLS folks here!

It also says that STEP decisions would start on March 1st, but they were around Feb 20th. Additionally, thanks to the wonder of the internet, I checked the version of the page going back to 2010. It's always said March 1st for STEP and March 15th for non-STEP. Checking the results here, that's not been the case.

Chances are 4-5 of the 6 of us will not be happy if we are a representative sample of the ICE applicant pool :/

Considering the amount of time we put in here, I'd say we might not be the most representative. It's actually an interesting question: Do GradCafe posters have a higher/lower acceptance rate than the general applicant pool?

Also, I think the acceptance rate is greater than 33% (as you've implied). I think it's more like 40%. If so, then only 3.6 of 6 of us will be disappointed. :D

Whew, relief!

I would think higher, but let's see when the results are known. If it's 40 percent, then for IEP only 35 people apply (since 14 get accepted), I think it is much lower than 40 %, but I have no proof, just my guess.

So should we start taking "bets" on when admission announcements first come through?

Optimistic bet: Tomorrow, 28 Feb @ 10:30a PST

Alternative: Monday 3 March @ 3:00p PST

In case of rejection, not sure if better to hear on a Friday or Monday...

Whoa only 14 people in the cohort. Had no idea it was so small... *shifts all hope to Harvard*

Anyway, against my own personal wishes, I'm betting Monday...

I was told by admissions person that acceptance rate for non-STEP MA programs was 20-25% depending on specific program.

POLS here! First time poster, but have been watching this forum and the results page more obsessively than I care to admit. Happy to see another POLS person!

Yikes. Well I guess it is the most selective school in the country (as a function of its size). Oh welllll. I'm sure half of the future cohort is on this board ;).

Another POLS applicant here! I can't believe how many views this thread has...I guess I'm not the only one refreshing frequently! Based on the data available here, it looks like the first notifications for the POLS program come out on either a Friday, a Tuesday, or (rarely) a Thursday. Guessing that if we don't hear today we'll have to wait till Tuesday!
