Nope it doesn't. Actually the admitted students here refer to the ones who got through IHEID in December. The result will only come out in March.

A lot of us debated on it on the other forum. Here's the link to that -

Hy guys, nice to see so many people interested in studying at the Graduate Institute.

Personally, as I am very interested in studying International Law, I applied by the early deadline (15th november) to the IL Master Programme, and I was finally put on a waiting list (which is arguably worse than being refused, arguably)..

On the e-mail they sent me, it is written that "The Admission Committee of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies has considered your application to be in line with our requirements of excellence. However, as the capacity of the Graduate Institute is limited, we cannot admit immediately all valuable candidates. Therefore, the Committee has decided to place your application on the waiting list".

This means that I will have to wait until April/early May to know whether I am admitted or not, which is very frustrating. At this point, if I correctly understood, everything will depend on whether someone who got admitted decides not to enrol at the Institute, at which moment places may become available..

Did anybody receive the same answer I received? If so, have you tried to contact the student office in order to have more info on your ranking on the waiting list?

Also, did any of the students who applied to the institute as a second choice, and got admitted, decide to enrol in another Graduate School?

Thanks for any comment you will want to make

Well my application was deferred too. Though this is what I got from IHEID people.

"Further to the review of your application, it has been decided that your application will be reassessed with the second round of selection early next year. Your application has been neither admitted nor refused at this stage and the commission postponed their decision in order to give it further consideration during the second round. You will therefore be informed of a final decision in March."

Though I applied for masters in Development Studies so well I think the procedure might diff or something. In any case good luck!

Thanks for your comment k_angie. However, it seems your situation is slightly different from mine.. by the way, do you have any clue about whether students who have not been accepted yet are still eligible for a scholarship from the Institute?

Will my being put on a waiting list prevent IHEID people from even consider that I can receive a scholarship?

Thanks again, and good luck with your second round application k_Angie.

Best, Frank

If I recall correctly, these people only consider you for scholarship when you have been accepted by the institute. Also they have a parallel list for scholarship where people are admitted, rejected or wait listed. So I guess only when others withdraw or reject their offer will you get to know your fate. Nevertheless all the best :)

K_angie  I am in a similar situation though my application is for MIA program. I think outright admission is given to students who fulfilled the requirements but didn't apply to scholarships. I want to find out if there are any students who are admitted and provided scholarships all at the same time in the first round?

Hi Fikries,

I have absolutely no clue about this. I guess you can attend their web session and then can find out for yourself or email them regarding this. Though I am sure everyone knows by March regarding their scholarships!

Have you been admitted in the MIA programme already?

I'm not currently involved in the process, so take this with a grain of salt! The year I applied, you could get accepted in the first or second round, but scholarship decisions for everyone were only released later on. I don't think applying for a scholarship means you won't get accepted the first round, since I know people who did early admission and got a scholarship in March, I think.

Hey Guys! I'm a final year political science student from India. I've applied for MDEV  in the second round. Do you think results will be out tomorrow?

Also, has anyone received an acceptance letter for the course?

Hi ASeth!

i too have applied for MDev and am a indian too. Generally the institute isnt opened on weekends hence i dont think they will release results tomorrow. Though then its admission season so maybe they will.

anyway as of now neither me or my friends have come across any accpetances in the MDev programme. In any case good luck :)

where else have you applied apart foom IHEID?

Hey! I have only applied to Graduate Institute since it's my dream school. Otherwise, I'll be taking the JNU and Lawfac entrance. That's what I was thinking as well. It might be closed during the weekends. But then why would they do this to us? I've been checking the application every half an hour. We'll know soon enough though. Congratulations for your various acceptances. Haha.

All the best!

Yeah I know how it is. Last year I too only applied to IHEID and no where else. Unfortunately I was denied admission. Hence I took a year off and worked on my application. So I a hoping for a positive response this time. In any case good luck with your other entrances and IHEID result :)

MA candidates were told via email today that we would received acceptances/rejections before and by March 14th. They're going to start releasing them shortly...which likely means everyone will hear back on the 14th. Falls in line with their traditional release dates, and with Georgetown SFS and SAIS coincidentally.

I know a few people from my class who applied to Masters in International Relations and recieved their admission calls today.

Oh positive or negative?

plus they are releasing disciplinary courses first and then interdisciplinary ones. I hope we do get to know the results soon. Its really stressing, all this waiting.

Were they phone calls or emails? I suspect they won't call Canada from Switzerland. xD

Emails. No phone calls. It's either emails or update of application statues online on the follow up page,

Also we have been discussing on this forum about MDev and IHEID since months now, pls feel free to join us.

Ah good to see. I've applied for their MA in International Law though so I don't quite fit with the MDev crew. But I'm still rooting for everyone here. :]

It's okay we have ppl from MIA and MA International History, International Law, International Relations and LLM in International Law. Don't be deceived by just International Dev name. We have a mix batch :D

Hey guys! I've applied for MDev too and got the acceptance letter yesterday. Still can't believe it.

Have you heard back from IHEID? I would be glad to share ideas and infos with fellow prospective students.

Good luck to you all :)
