Hey All,

I am retaking the GRE in two weeks. I got Q157 and V151 on my last one which seem to be too low for most CS Ph.D. programs.

However, yesterday I got a mail through the ETS search service from the University of Chicago. If they approach me does that means the scores are good enough to apply there? They are not a top school but ranked not that bad (around #35).

Just wondering if anybody has experience with that service.

Thanks!

some of my friends had the same experience, but at the end, their scores weren't competitive, and they didn't get in :)

I got the same email from U-Chicago yesterday. What would be a better sign, is if you recieve emails that are offering to waive the application fee. I recently sat for my GRE as well, and have recieved one application waiver so far.

Good luck on your upcoming re-take!

I found that the ETS Search Service was really just a way to sign up to get spam. Unless things have changed in the last few years, I don't think the solicitations are actually personalised at all. So, I wouldn't think anything of a solicitation from ETS Search Service. If a prof contacted you directly (because they saw your paper/pre-print/poster/presentation etc) then that would be a much stronger indicator that you would be a good candidate!
