Does anyone know if Berkeley has sent out all the acceptances already?

I received an e-mail reply from a department admin on Friday last week that the Dept is still reviewing applications.

well here is a little heads up, to the best of my knowledge Holton does not take graduate students anymore only postdocs and if by Tyler you mean Dr. Tyler McQuade he does take graduate students however he moved to Germany a few years back and talks with his students via skype, he is a great chemist but this is something to take into consideration. Dudley is probably your best bet. I would switch out Holton for a different option, Alabugin and Zhu are both great organic chemists to look into.

Hi ClickClick, Could you please help me find out how many new PhD students FSU Chemistry department typically admit into their program? Or better still how many offers do they typically send out for each Fall term? I only know about the number of applicants they are currently reviewing (140 applicants according to the Graduate Students Coordinator). I also gathered that Dr Tyler McQuade is back from Germany. How true is this info? Kindly reply soon. Many thanks! We shall all achieve our dreams.

Still receiving? I thought deadline was December 22. Anyway, so it's okay that I haven't heard anything yet?

The message said 'still reviewing' not 'receiving'.

Has anyone heard back from Vanderbilt yet? I decided to apply there almost as an afterthought initially but actually it might be one of my top choices if I get in. I noticed on the results page from last year its almost all rejections. Surely they are accepting some people....

Nope, no word yet from there. I, too, applied as an afterthought! I think this is actually the longest I've waited between the application deadline and hearing back.. hmm..

That's unfortunate. Penn is my top choice school, and I don't have any acceptances as of right now,  so it looks like I might be nervous for a while

Well, I just got into Penn (organic chemistry). They're sending out emails now, I guess. Not quite as notoriously late as I postulated  :P  Good luck! Hope you get good news.

hey Academics, I'm not sure if I can answer all of your questions because I'm not too sure myself. Its a medium sized program but I only ever interact with the organic graduate students (auditing some advanced organic classes). I would say there were probably 15-20 organic first years? I can't comment on the other disciplines because there are fewer or more 1st years for each. As far as McQuade goes, I haven't seen him around and I would have if he was back because professors are required to attend seminars. He has been thinking about coming back but I haven't seen him. Anyways his chemistry is great if he is back, I would go with him or Dudley if you are into synthesis.

Congrats! I have not heard anything, but I'm applying for physical so we'll see.

Minor update from Berkeley: I called today to check on fee waiver stuff and asked how everything was progressing. Since (according to the results page) they haven't made any decisions since Jan 15, I was getting worried. She said the Chem department was still making decisions and they'll let the admissions department know their recommendations and they'll in turn begin contacting applicants.

So it seems as if they make decisions in waves. Let's hope we're all in the next one!

Thanks so much for this info! Fingers crossed for all of us!

Anyone who has applied to USC, can we online track the progress of application? The e-mail on submission of application said

"As you may have gathered from our website, the site allows you to track the status of your application."

Is this Upenn or Penn State that you are talking about?

As MCE said, thank you for this information, it is quite a relief.

I thought the same thing too! However, I haven't found said status of application. They haven't even replied to my emails with questions I've sent them...

P.S. I assume you mean University of Southern California and not University of South Carolina right? My current PI thought I meant South Carolina when I said "USC" before.

Yes Southern California! South Carolina uses "SC" Their email was even more confusing when I asked the same question "Please know that you should be able check your application by using the 4 digit application number that you were given" The application number is 5 digit and not 4...:/

At least they sent you back an email.

Anyways, I just went on to the Q&A page and this is how they answer the question (I guess there's some confusion in their office):

Q. Who should I contact regarding my application status?

Please contact the Graduate Student Coordinator, at chemgrad@usc.edu with any questions regarding your status. Please do not contact the faculty to check the status of your application.

Just joining in on the post. I found out from UC-Irvine on Dec. 7. I had only applied 6 days before, but it helps that when I visiting Southern California, that I took a tour and talked to some POIs.  I also found out from Rice Jan 11.  Got a call from a POI.

Currently, I am anxiously waiting for CalTech to get back to me. I had an informal chat with someone from AdCom on Friday who started talking about visiting weekend and the professors there and what I would see. All this before I get official letter. I asked him if I had missed an email or something. He said my acceptance was "likely" and I would hear positive or negative this week.

He then emailed me to get my last semester grades yesterday. I'm SO NERVOUS.  I thought CalTech was a longshot with my application, but now that its so close, I really want it bad. When I visited, I loved everything about the school, the atmosphere and Pasadena.
