So I may be the only one on this thread still deciding at this point haha, but I'm kinda being hounded by a school I was accepted to about if I will accept the offer. I've probably been emailed 5 times since I was accepted in February asking where I am in the decision-making process. Even though I emailed the professor about a week ago, I was just emailed again today and am not sure how to respond. It's one of my top choices, but I've been wait-listed at 2 schools and am trying to wait those out.

Should I be honest and tell them they're my top choice out of where I've been accepted, but I'm wait-listed at a program where I currently live and that is a good option financially, so I'm waiting to see how that plays out? I know they just keep asking because they want to know what to tell the people on their wait-list, but I feel like I'm in an awkward place. If I do end up attending their program, I don't want them to think I didn't really want to go there.

I would be honest and say what you said..they're your top choice of where you've been accepted, but you are waiting to hear back from a few other schools you've been waitlisted at...at which point you will be able to assess the best financial option for you. That way it sort of takes them out of it and makes it about finances too. Didn't you say you were going to hear back from your first choice waitlist monday (today?) How did that go?

I'm actually in the same boat. I've "decided" (see my sig) but only because I'm 99% sure my waitlist spot won't come through. So I haven't actually committed to UWM and they email me all the time! They also tried to get me to make a decision because of people on their waitlist, but I just told them I'm very likely to come, I am just waiting to see all the offers I get first to make a fair decision. As much as it sucks for everyone that we're waiting, we DO have until April 15. Don't let them make you feel guilty because you haven't decided - you have 7 more days!

Honestly I feel like everyone on the waitlist is playing a giant game of chicken! The people who haven't made decisions at your schools where you're on the waitlist may be waiting to get off the list somewhere else.... I haven't accepted UWM because I'm waiting for somewhere else (probably making waitlisted UWM students anxious....) and so on and so on!

Although at this point I've emailed my waitlist school TWICE and they haven't responded to either, so I'm tempted to say 'screw it' and just officially accept the UWM offer!

I'm from Florida and had also researched those programs when I was applying. I think I would personally choose UF. It's a really great school, Gainesville is a cute college town, and from what I've heard, the program is extremely competitive to get into (so congrats!!!) Nova seems like a great program too, but it's definitely a lot more expensive and I've heard a lot of complaints about that from people I know who go there for grad school. Cost of living will also be much higher since it's in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. When I was researching Nova, it also seemed like their program is a year longer than other specialist programs, if that matters to you. They're definitely both good choices though, so good luck!!!

Thank you so much and thank you for all your advice/help, I am most likely going to go for UF (as it was my first choice). I am actually from S. Florida, so Nova would be so convenient with cost of living and I know the area. University and program, my heart is more towards UF. Thanks again for your comments, truly appreciate it! :)

i agree with iphi about not letting them make you feel bad.  One of the programs that I feel rather strongly about but have not accepted from is always emailing me asking where I am in the decision process even though I already informed them I was waiting to hear from all my schools. Today one of the faculty called and left a voicemail and still wanted another update on the decision process...but I already gave it to them so I'm not really sure what to say but it's kind of annoying.

What ended up happening with Northern Arizona?

Anyone know anything about UMass Boston's program? Just got off the wait list there and it's perfect for me location-wise and money (by FAR my cheapest school), but I'm not sure how its program compares to others. At the interview, one of the professors was out sick so we only got to meet 1 part-time faculty member and the director of the program. Thinking about seeing if I can stop by again before decision time and talk to more of the faculty.

I got in for the PhD program (and will be declining.... just in case any waitlisters are lurking!) but I think it's a good school, and they offered me good money. Unfortunately the PhD program is brand new (I think we'd be the 2nd or 3rd cohort?) and are not NASP or APA accredited! But the EdS is NASP accredited and has such a good reputation that it actually made me think very hard about accepting because I figured with the good reputation the EdS program has it was sure to get accreditation for it's PhD program!

TL;DR: Good school!

Thanks so much for the info!! My decision is not getting any easier though as I suddenly got funding offers in the last couple days! Siiiigh haha

so what happens if you are on a waitlist and someone with acceptance responds with a decline on the 15th?

is there still time for people on the waitlist to accept after the 15th

Yes, you can be offered a spot. But I have been reading around here that if you accept a funded offer at another school before April 15 you need to be released from the contract before you can accept the (waitlisted) school's offer.

Just heard from the program where I am waitlisted - I will not be offered a spot. But that's fine! Honestly, I think where I'm going may be even better for me. And now I have officially accepted a place somewhere! I am going to grad school!!!

It feels so FREEING to have made a final decision! Thanks ladies (and dudes) for going through this all with me! Good luck to you all! :D

Think I just decided! It's so scary but also super relieving that this process is finally over haha. Thanks everyone for going through this with me too and for all the advice :) Yay school psych!

Congrats to those of you heading to a school psyc program! I myself am looking at schools for the 2015 start.

What schools have you all found to offer the best funding to their students? I have my heart set on NYC. Columbia is likely out of the question.

SOOO excited for everyone making their final decisions! I hope that by the end of the day tomorrow everyone is happy with their choices :)

haoran - are you looking at masters/specialist programs or doctoral? I applied to a few of the doctoral programs in NYC. I found that St. John's PsyD program offered the most financial aid.

If you're applying to EdS programs, Columbia doesn't give anything :( From my experience, the specialist programs that offer the most funding are University of Delaware, Lehigh, and William and Mary. Good luck starting this process!

Feels good to finally be done with the whole application process ~ making a decision was rough but I'm so glad to have it over with.

I will be attending Columbia and while its hard to imagine myself living in NYC, the program seemed pretty amazing!

There's something for everyone in the city! You'll adjust more quickly than you think :) Congrats!

I'm looking at specialist programs primarily (and now St. John's PsyD program! thank you!), since I don't have much research experience. I have lots of experience working in schools, but all I have for research is what I did for classes during undergrad (and some unpublished, independent research I did while in China). I'm not confident enough that I'd get into a good PhD program.

Thanks, schoolpsycher for naming those schools! I'm only really considering schools in NY and MA though. So I guess funding comes second after location.

I'm looking at Queens College, wsa92, considering applying there.

If you're looking at schools in MA, funding is pretty terrible at most of them. But I'll be attending UMass Boston in the fall, and their tuition is SO cheap if you can get in-state tuition, and you can apply for assistantships as well.

Hello all!

I have been following this thread for awhile. However, I am not applying to school until Fall 2015.  First off, congratulations to all of you on your wonderful accomplishment of being accepted to School Psych programs!  I have a question, and am hoping someone will be able to provide some guidance.

I am interested in both PhD and EdS School Psych programs.  I currently have my Masters in Social Work and have been in the field for 4 years working in a therapeutic day school in Chicago.  I feel as though I am a strong candidate for the EdS track due to my experience. However, I am also interested in PhD programs, but lack research experience and my understanding is that PhD programs are very competitive for admittance.  There are several schools I am looking at to apply, some only have EdS and some have both EdS and PhD. My question is: is it possible to apply to both an EdS and PhD program at the same school? Have any of you done that or heard about that? I know I have seen that some people have applied to both EdS and PhD programs, but no one has mentioned applying to those programs within the same school.  There is one school in particular that offers both EdS and PhD and while I would be thrilled to be admitted into PhD, I am not sure if it will be possible due to no research experience. Therefore, I would be very happy to be admitted into their EdS program. If anyone has any thoughts or guidance, that would be much appreciated! I sent an email over to an adviser that I have met with at the school and posed the same question to him, but have not heard back. I am hoping my question isn't too off the wall :)

Thanks in advance!!

Great question actually! So, one of my schools had a policy that if you were not admitted to the doctoral level, you would be automatically considered for the masters level. I believe this policy varies from school to school, so your best bet would be to contact the school psych admin assistant at the college you are interested in and ask him/her directly.
