HicklePickle Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I was very disappointed with the format because there were 25 of us and we were only asked one question each by each faculty member because there were so many of us. I didn't feel as though that was an effective way to get an accurate picture of each candidate. How do you possibly narrow it down to 6 applicants from one question?! And sure enough, I was waitlisted. I was frustrated because I feel that if I had had a more "traditional" interview I would have done much better. I think they should have invited fewer people and gotten to know those people better. Whoa!! 25?! That's insane. So sorry to hear that! Did you have a group interview for the 3 hour event? Was that one any better?
iphi Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Whoa!! 25?! That's insane. So sorry to hear that! Did you have a group interview for the 3 hour event? Was that one any better? That one I was already accepted. We had one hour of listening to the Dean with the rest of the College of Ed talking about funding and residency, then a 15-minute "interview" with one faculty member. So I didn't have time to ask all my questions and the rest of the time I was just sitting around. I mean, talking to other students, but still. Not exactly worth flying out for. HicklePickle 1
Rosy_Retrospection Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Also applied to Tufts and haven't heard back yet! Does anyone know if Tufts specialist level program has sent out invites for interviews yet? I just received an email today for their interview day, so I would be on the lookout for an email!

HicklePickle Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Ask for Skype! I just went to considerable trouble to attend a 3-hour interview and IMO it wasn't worth it. The group interview I went to (different school) also was awful. I really wish I'd have gotten some time to be interviewed by myself. So Skype would have been really good. I say go for Skype! So they responded quickly and said they can move the interview date but that's it. I guess I'm flying out for a two hour interview... yikes. Not a good start to this whole thing
schoolpsycher Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 I just got accepted to the University of Delaware!!! Wasn't expecting that and was honestly thinking I'd be happy with a waitlist but AHHH so so relieved! snakex 1

iphi Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Okay guys, PHEW. I can finally take a breath! I was just gone for a week doing interviews, and I got back yesterday. This morning I had 2 phone interviews and received 2 admissions decisions! One was a waitlist to my (new) top-choice program (so much ) and the other was an acceptance! Does anyone have tips for what to say to a professor who emails you an acceptance? I am not ready to make a decision! How do I sound enthusiastic and polite, but non-commital? Just that then I'm ready to relax for a few days! HicklePickle 1

I will let you know of my decision as soon as possible!" iphi 1
Blue4 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Has anyone applied to or know anything about the Ed.S programs at Seattle University, EWU , and Northern Arizona University? I'm still waiting to hear back from the University of Montana after the phone interview.

iPsych Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Congrats to everyone on their acceptances!!!! Congrats! I would say something like "Thank you for the offer, <accepted school> is one of my top choices, but I am still considering other offers. Blue4 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I received my email on Thursday. Are you out of state? (Maybe they give out of staters more time to plan?) Yes, I'm from out of state and I haven't received an email from them since last Monday when I had my interview?
baunlee Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 on an unrelated note, anyone want to proof my "diversity" statement pretty please My sop was pretty easy to churn out but because the diversity statement is so personal in nature I have a hard time being objective or telling if it's crap. It has nothing to do with race or ethnicity if that helps!
snakex Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Just had a specialist interview yesterday/today. They asked: why school psych, about the labs I worked at, what area of school psych I'm interested in, strength/weakness, and about an internship I had. There was also a group project thing that was a little stressful. What was your group project like?
iphi Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 BAD NEWS, all. NASP conference is next week! Meaning that if we don't hear anything from schools by Friday (maybe Monday?) we probably won't hear for an additional week or two because no one is making decisions while out at the conference! Looks like March or the week directly before will probably be the earliest. I had an interview this morning which said I wouldn't hear until mid-March because of NASP!

This, paired with all the snow we've been getting, is adding to my levels of anxiety/impatience All of the schools that I'm waiting to hear back from are in the NYC area and have been closed at least one day a week for the past three weeks. I'm going nuts over here

I'm going nuts over here I feel the same way ... if this snow doesn't stop in the NY Metro area, we're never going to get any decisions (and I may go crazy due to absolutely hating snow)
iphi Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) I am currently trying for the 100th time to explain to my mom how 1) school counselors and school psychologists are different, and 2) how with a PhD I probably would not even work as a school psychologist (difference between PhD and EdS). I wonder how many times I will have to go through this? Edited February 14, 2014 by iphi

I wonder how many times I will have to go through this? I'm trying to emotionally prepare myself to answer this question for the next 5-10 years of my life haha One of my friends is currently enrolled at the school psychology program at Hofstra and she says when people ask what she's doing right now she simply answers "I'm in grad school"
HicklePickle Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I have an interview with Central Washington for March 1! Woohoo!
