ORcand Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Has anyone been to the Northwestern weekend? How was it? I have been admitted, but being an international candidate, I did not have the luxury to attend... It's between NU and Georgia Tech for me, so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible.
warwicker Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Anyone heard from CMU, Toronto, UTAustin and MIT ESD?

I have been admitted, but being an international candidate, I did not have the luxury to attend... It's between NU and Georgia Tech for me, so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible. I thought the visit was put together very well. The current students seemed very nice. Do you have any specific questions?
nubswitstubs Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Anyone heard from CMU, Toronto, UTAustin and MIT ESD? I know CMU has already made an offer (and I think they only admit ~3 students/year), but I haven't gotten anything, so I'm expecting a rejection.
kalmamad Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 People accepted to USC: Please tell me if you had any interview or close contact with professors there? Did they send an official letter or you were informed informally by some person?? Thanks for taking time answering me.
Foolhardy Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 UT Austin or UMich? I would appreciate your wise comments!
kalmamad Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 (edited) UT Austin or UMich? I would appreciate your wise comments! Michigan's IOE program is more prestigious, as far as I know. But the city conditions and weather are very different and you have to decide on your own preferences. Ann Arbor is a small cold city but Austin is a huge interesting city with warmer climate. Another important factor is your adviser; how distinguished s/he is and how his/her students tell about his/her ethics... Stipend amount is another factor... lol This is a very hard multi-criteria decision making, my friend. Wish you all the best. Edited March 5, 2014 by kalmamad
kalmamad Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Well, it seem we can be happy from the beginning of this application season! As this topic shows, from late October to December we had only two applicants visiting this forum. It means the competition is going to be really easy compared with the previous years. . . Hello there. Do you still think we had an easy competition so far?
samen Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I received an email from UC Irvine and UCLA. They have put me on their wait list . . .
CarpeDiem Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 still waiting the results from berkeley, unc, georgia tech, and uiuc well...when can i expect to get any results from them??? (of course, especially positive results)
TOApplicant Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Which field did you apply at UCLA? Were you interviewed? Hope it works out for you...
samen Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Which field did you apply at UCLA? Were you interviewed? Hope it works out for you... I have applied for Decisions, Operations, And Technology Management and I have not been interviewed by them. Have you applied for Anderson too?!
TOApplicant Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Nice and yes I have applied the same area DOTM, unfortunately did not hear anythig, I guess I should cross another one from the list
M9arg3 Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) UT Austin or UMich? I would appreciate your wise comments! How was UT-Austin visit weekend ? Edited March 7, 2014 by M9arg3

I first emailed them and then they informed me that I have been wait listed. So do not worry too soon! Foolhardy Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Wait! I first emailed them and then they informed me that I have been wait listed. So do not worry too soon! For UCLA email to guillaume.roels@anderson.ucla.edu For UC Irvine people should email to phd@merage.uci.edu I hope you the best of luck . . . But, guillaume.roels@anderson.ucla.edu is an email for one of the faculty members!
icantmakeagooddecision Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 For operations research.....UW-madison, NCSU, or PSU????
CarpeDiem Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If there's still no messages from a school that I applied for, do you think that sending email to ask when can I expect to get a result would be appropriate?? I am hesitating it because it could negatively affect the final decision.
samen Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 But, guillaume.roels@anderson.ucla.edu is an email for one of the faculty members! That is true! He is responsible for Decisions, Operations, And Technology Management and they do not reply through other emails. So, there is no other choice
samen Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) If there's still no messages from a school that I applied for, do you think that sending email to ask when can I expect to get a result would be appropriate?? I am hesitating it because it could negatively affect the final decision. I cannot think that a mere question may have negative effect on an important thing like the final decision! Feel free to ask! Your hesitation is just a result of your own stress nothing more . . . Edited March 8, 2014 by samen samen and kalmamad 2
icantmakeagooddecision Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Can anyone compare the programs (OR specialty) at the following programs: Berkley NCSU Texas AM Wisconsin PSU Michigan Any information is helpful .....Thanks!
kalmamad Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Michigan and UC Berkeley are the dominant choices, for sure. Tell me if you have any doubts! Can anyone compare the programs (OR specialty) at the following programs: Berkley NCSU Texas AM Wisconsin PSU Michigan Any information is helpful .....Thanks!
TOApplicant Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 I know CMU has already made an offer (and I think they only admit ~3 students/year), but I haven't gotten anything, so I'm expecting a rejection. May I ask how u learned about cmu rejection? They tend to reject overqualified students like you.
nubswitstubs Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 May I ask how u learned about cmu rejection? They tend to reject overqualified students like you. I received a generic e-mail on March 6th. I don't think I'm overqualified by any means... CMU has a top notch OR program. I think some things in my personal statement and academic history probably didn't align very well with CMU's program.
