moyru Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Hi everyone! Would anyone be willing to read my SOP? It's 1,500 words, which I know is lengthy. I would gladly return the favor. keyvan 1

Crucial BBQ Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 And what is the word limit on the app..? Cuz that seems ridiculous.. I literally lol'd. 1,500 words is what, two pages? That is not bad at all.
Loric Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 But considering many are 500 words and the "longer" ones are often 1000 - that's a REALLY long SOP. It's like writing a 38 lines Haiku. "38 lines isn't long.." Yeah, but it is for a Haiku.
Human_ Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) If you still want an opinion I would be glad to look over it. But considering many are 500 words and the "longer" ones are often 1000 - that's a REALLY long SOP. I don't think it's long. I would think that most serious applicants for Harvard would have enough experience to easily fill 1000 words. Edited December 15, 2013 by Human_
Loric Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I still think it's too long - ANYONE can apply to Havard - yet only the most skilled writers (aka: not most people) will be able to make it a pleasent reading experience. I suppose that's the point of the challenge and all.. but really, most people allowed that many words are going to tell you their life story and possibly the life story of their goldfish and how they've wanted this degree since they were in the womb. Long word limits allow phrases like "Ever since I was a child.." (6 useless words in any SOP) to linger under even the most lax editing standards. A concise 500-1000 will have those words quickly thrown upon the digital scrap heap where they belong. Edited December 20, 2013 by Loric
