Ross Thames Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Salaam, A few years ago when I applied to graduate programs in NELC, this forum kept me sane while waiting around. I have just sent off my application for Near Eastern Studies, and have 4 months of waiting ahead of me. I only have the stupid GRE left to take (didn't know I had to take it again until about 2 weeks) ago. I thought I would start the thread this year. Once deadlines are past I will be happy to talk more about where I've applied and what my academic interests are. Anyone else interested in commiserating? colorless Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I am applying to two schools (and other schools but different departments) and have sent them now. Let's see what will happen.

ldoone Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 anyone know when yale happens? has it happened already?
doobiebrothers Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 harvard nelc should come out next week, if last year is any indication
kindle1990 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 It's more than likely that Yale's Arabic Studies will not accept any applicant for Fall 2014. An inside source just told me that!
Ross Thames Posted February 19, 2014 Author Posted February 19, 2014 Hey everyone, I've got an acceptance for a PhD program, and am waiting to hear about funding. Is it wise, in order to express my interest in accepting, that I write or call the graduate adviser to say I'm happily and patiently waiting for more details, or write to a POI to do the same? The department hasn't heard anything from me since they accepted me, but I don't really have anything to say until I hear more details, any thoughts?
mswaney Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Ugh, waiting is the absolute worst! My sub-field is Egyptology. Does anyone know when UPenn (NELC) makes their decisions? I couldn't find any sort of timeline on their website... Best of luck to everyone, and congrats to those who have received offers!
s0822345 Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 yeah still waiting. I only heard from one of my schools yet :-/ My subfield is Egyptology
ldoone Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Ross - i've emailed mine back saying thanks, i'm really flattered/surprised and i'll make my decision as soon as poss. it surely can't do any harm...
Ross Thames Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Thanks Idoone. A prof reached out to explain everything last night. There are some wonderful, super thoughtful professors out there. Good luck everyone!
Tha-Boy Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 It looks like people have been receiving news from Chicago and JHU. I have yet to hear anything. Reasons why?
mswaney Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I haven't heard anything from Chicago yet either. Since the only results I have seen on here are acceptances, I'm guessing this means a rejection...or possibly a waitlist? We should hear this week if last year's timeline is anything to go by.
tushratta Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 You got admitted to a really great program at JHU so I wouldn't worry too much..
mswaney Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 You got admitted to a really great program at JHU so I wouldn't worry too much.. Thank you! I just hate not knowing...the waiting seems endless...
