TechniColor
First post here. Plan to apply chemistry Ph.D. program in 2014 fall. In short, my undergraduate is totally messed up, very low gpa (2.6, chemistry gpa is similar), no research experience, no excuse. Got MS degree in chemistry with 3.8 GPA and three publications (IF around 13, 4 and 2. Two second author, one first author). one U.S. patent (1st author). Have 1.5 industry experience as a R&D Chemist in a world leading chemical company (#1 or #2). Three great letters from MS advisor, two Senior scientists from company. Plan to apply top 30 graduate schools, any chances at all?
Loric
30.. that seems like overkill.. I would think if you had any blaring deficiencies the more personal of a relationship you can foster and the more you can present yourself as a custom fit would be in your favor. You're not going to be able to do so with 30 schools.
Eatin' Biscuits
I assume s/he means schools rated in the top 30.. not that s/he will apply to 30 different schools. I would imagine that your work on your master's degree and industry research experience will trump your uGPA. If I had your resume I'd be comfortable applying to the top schools. Good luck!
