DeafAudi Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I don't know if anyone is interested in CIs but I decided to try bilateral CIs this summer! I was reimplanted to my left ear in 2005 when my dominant right ear (with CI) was no longer serving me adequately. I have since only used my new (left) CI. It sounds very odd, to say in the least. I can only hear a lot of static and high tones but I have hopes that my brain will get used to it again and I'll be able to use both.
AuDorBust Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Cool, we had a guest speaker in my Hearing Science class that has bi-laterals. From what I remember that was pretty much what she said; that it started out mostly noise but her brain figured it out and they worked together.
DeafAudi Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Interesting! Only about half of the electrodes are functioning in my right CI but some users make use of that, so I'm excited to see what happens!
