Methylmadness Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Anyone else apply to the Harvard BPH program? If so, have you heard anything from them yet?
sciguy Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Haven't heard. Finished app 11/30. Nothing on Results Search either. According to their website their recruitment is Jan 23-24. So maybe we're just rejected? Of course I'm hoping they're just painfully slow.

Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 where on the website does it state their interview dates? I looked for it and apparently I just couldn't find it. I'm hoping to hear back within the next few days??? If no one has heard anything about it yet, then I assume they haven't let anyone know of anything and considering Harvard BBS just sent out their interview invites... everything is a bit later in the game?
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 On the main page (http://bph.hsph.harvard.edu/) on the right under Upcoming Events -- Jan 23 BPH Recruitment Hope springs eternal!
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 awesome thanks! yeah, I'm about ready to go crazy with all this waiting just for an interview. what department are you looking to go into?
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Hoping to study malaria or TB. Applied to some Immuno programs elsewhere, but I liked the structure of BPH.
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Oh cool yeah, BPH is my first choice program, mainly because of the public health focus, I'm hoping to go more into either cancer or obesity research with regards to epigenetic changes.
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 yup... making up user names... not always easy. hah Did you contact any of the professors in the BPH program before you applied?
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I didn't. BPH is for sure my biggest reach, and I just sort of thought Why not? toward the end of app season.
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Ha nice. where else did you end up applying to?
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 U. of Washington, NYU, Cornell, Mt. Sinai, Uchicago UW is pathobio in their dept. of global health but all other Immuno! What about you?
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 2 programs at Harvard, MIT, and BU MIT and BU are biomedical science programs, but Enviro health/public health at Harvard. UW is great, I did my undergrad in Seattle and I have a few friends there now doing their PhDs
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I've never been to Seattle so I'm excited to interview at least! Plus the lady who called me was sooooo nice. Made my day even if she's that friendly to everyone!
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 Haha, just be prepared for rain, not heavy rain but just rain. Side note: if you have an umbrella you will be forever labeled as a "tourist", but if you don't have a rain coat, it is acceptable, I guess. Congrats on your interview there!
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 I emailed the BPH program just asking when they will send out invites, hopefully they will get back to me soonish...
sciguy Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Thanks! And thanks for the tip! What time zone are you in? I'm in CST but the time stamps on these posts are definitely not.
Methylmadness Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 currently i'm in PST yeah all my time stamps are for EST, but when I am back in New York, the time stamps are always 3 hours ahead of me. no idea why
Methylmadness Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 no they didn't. it's driving me nuts, though I did hear there was some sort of Harvard bomb threat last week, so that might be why there is such a delay... unfortunately we have to wait now until Jan 2nd, because I think the office is closed from the 24th until the 2nd.
Methylmadness Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 I'm secretly hoping that they will feel bad that they haven't sent out interview invites yet so they will call tomorrow, even though it's christmas eve...... one can only hope
