Yale MFA Deadline TODAY OR TOMORROW?

Hi guys,

Yale MFA deadline is 12 midnight EST on January 1, 2014.

I hadn't thought twice about the deadline because I thought without a doubt that this meant 11:59pm ON January 1, not 11:59pm on Dec 31. All of a sudden I'm confused and having a panic attack because one of my recommenders still has not submitted her letter yet.

Is the deadline TODAY OR TOMORROW?

Thanks!

It would have been helpful to phrase it 11:59 Jan 1st. Presumably people are back in the office on Jan 2nd, so I don't see any advantage to closing it down on the 1st.

It is amazing how quickly doubt seeps in when instructions are ambiguous!

Having said "tomorrow" so confidently I'm now feeling pretty uncomfortable. Here is a discussion about it elsewhere from another year. Seems their deadline is the same every year.

i understood it as one minute after Dec 31 at 11:59, so I made sure to get it in during 2013. However it says elsewhere on the site: 3. References from three persons practicing or teaching in the field in which application is made, attesting to the applicant’s ability and competence in that field.

NOTEBecause the admissions committee reviews applications shortly after the deadline, time limitations may preclude reading any supporting documents uploaded after the first week of January. Please impress this fact on the people who will be writing on your behalf.

In my case I have one recommendation coming in Friday. I believe it should be ok, Friday is still technically the first week in January. It's probably not ideal but ok.

good luck!

Yeah, I was concerned because Yale particularly made a point of wanting everything in by the deadline. Understandable, since they want to get in touch with those they want to interview by February.

I've calmed down a bit. Not terrible worried anymore... Thanks, bathtub!

When you mean one recommendation coming in Friday, do you mean a physical copy? Or will the person submit online?
