Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 In years past, the transcript requests came out over the course of several days. Rejections are sent through snail mail, but those requests through email. So, I imagine all emails should be going out this week. Keep updating! Are any of you waiting on other grants as well?
ketabehayat Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I am waiting for an internal grant at my university, and some field specific external grants. I will also be applying to Fulbright-Hays as soon as the application deadline for my campus is announced. However, the fellowship I really want is SSRC-IRDF. Hopefully, there will be good news! Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 I am with you. I cannot apply for Fulbright-Hays because my research is in Britain, though. I am also waiting on Wenner Gren, which should be very soon as well! So much of the rest of my PhD program depends on what news I get back this week...waiting is painful!
Cicero Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I looked back at some old threads and in one year, the requests came out over the course of 5-6 days. So, I guess if we hear nothing by the end of the week, we should be expecting the thin envelope. Hopefully that's not the case for any of us! By the way, here is another source: academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/Dissertation_Fellowships_2014-2015
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 UGH. Waiting is the worst. I want to be hopeful, but not to the point of crushing disappointment...
mangotree14 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) I received a transcript request yesterday. Does anyone have any idea what percentage of people receive those? Good luck to those who may still be waiting. Edited February 5, 2014 by mangotree14
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 5, 2014 Author Posted February 5, 2014 what time of day did you guys receive the transcript requests?
Cicero Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Nothing in my email (boo) and nothing in my snail mail (yay). I just want to know!
Mumstheword Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Nothing in my email (boo) and nothing in my snail mail (yay). I just want to know! ditto. I may eat this whole pint of cookie dough ice cream. ketabehayat 1
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 ditto. I may eat this whole pint of cookie dough ice cream. I totally picked the wrong time to be healthy...waiting for grants AND studying to comps. Both my email and real-mail boxes are devoid of any news.
grads2016 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Hi Nrrrdgrrrl and all! I got a transcript request on Feb 4th at 3.20pm Best of luck to all and may the waiting be over soon
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Hi Nrrrdgrrrl and all! I got a transcript request on Feb 4th at 3.20pm Best of luck to all and may the waiting be over soon Thanks for letting us know. Can we just have some information, please, SSRC?!
dissertationresearch2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I received a transcript request on 2/4 at 3:20 pm, from idrf@ssrc.org. good luck to everyone!
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Sounds like everyone who got a transcript request so far did so Tuesday. I am trying to stay positive about the chances for the rest of us, but...
manlius Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Yes. Sounds like they received the transcript requests almost the same time. Good luck.
ketabehayat Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 trying to stay positive, too, but it looks like it's pretty much over ...
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 It's not over until you get the envelope. And then, it's only over for this round. Try. Try again. Fail. Fail better. Mumstheword 1
Muggle Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Two people at my school got the email on Tuesday afternoon. So I am assuming all the emails have gone out already, and the rest of us are waiting for rejection letters.
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Yeah, it is starting to look that way! GRRR.
Nrrrdgrrrl Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Got the dreaded white envelope of absolute desolation. At least it was worded nicely. Rejection sucks. Good luck, all...keep us informed!
external Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 from the past records, for those who got the transcript requests, it seems like we should get the final news in about three weeks... April is going to be one nervous month!
grads2016 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Any idea what the numbers look like now for those who got transcript requests? Good luck!
mb834 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Any idea what the numbers look like now for those who got transcript requests? Good luck! This is from another message board: "Transcript request received 5th Feb. It seems like they come in over a period of time. Anyone knows how large the remaining pool is for those whose transcripts were requested? My understanding of the process, which is based on following message boards over the years and some conversations with professors who have served as SSRC reviewers, is that the pool is cut to around 200 at the "transcript request" stage. So the first cut is quite a significant one (they have received 1,100-1,200 apps in recent years) when compared to other agencies (Wenner-Gren, for instance, cuts about 50 percent in their first round.) The national panel meets in April to go over the remaining 200 or so apps that received transcript requests and they select the 75-80 winners. The reviewer comments are generally useful and encouraging, but unless you crack that top 15-20 percent, you won't be getting them."
