I thought I would start a conversation for those recently accepted to PhD programs in political theory, or for that matter, anyone else who might be interested in this topic, to say a little bit about themselves and where they think they might be heading next year. Beyond getting a better grasp of what the theory community looks like on gradcafe, I think this may serve as a good networking opportunity. This is to say that I'm hoping that this thread may provide an opportunity to meet others who may be in your future cohort, and to allow some relationships to develop before the fall term begins. In any event, maybe we can just discuss our interests! I've met relatively few others at my undergrad institution that were terribly interested in this field, so I'm always excited to talk shop with those with similar interests.

I'll start! I was accepted to Cornell yesterday, and I'm really ecstatic about the opportunities this will generate. I'm especially interested in agonistic democratic theory and continental thought, so I'm really looking forward to working with Jason Frank, Jill Frank, Alex Livingston, and Diane Rubenstein. Ithaca also looks beautiful, so Cornell has that going for it as well! Like many others, I want to wait until I have all of my options laid out before making the final decision, but I honestly feel like I'll more likely than not to accept this offer. I can still hardly believe that I got this offer, so I'm still very much on cloud 9.

Hi Wokeem and all! Welcome to the sinking ship of state that is the republic of contemporary political theory. Good idea starting this thread our discipline does thrive off of discourse.

I was accepted at UCLA and Cornell and still waiting to hear back from Hopkins, Toronto, and Northwestern. My interests are primarily in aesthetic politics, sensorial/somatic politics, feminist political theory, affect theory, phenomenology, and hermeneutics.

Hi Wokeem, AppliKant2014, and all! I also got accepted to Cornell for theory, and am also waiting on a couple more schools to hear from.

Thrilled with this acceptance though, and also very tempted to accept it.

My interests concern with democratic theory, citizenship, immigration, and national sovereignty, and I am (also) looking forward to working with pretty much the same group of people that you (wokeem) enlisted.  :D All of them (except for Jill Frank, as I only recently learned that she joined the department) were mentioned in my statement.

Dude, you just woke up all my (so carefully buried) worries in one sentence.  :D Indeed, they say it is sinking. But it is just so hard to leave it, isn't it. It is one alluring ship.

Congrats, juedepaume! It's wonderful to see another theory admit on gc, much less another prospective cornellian! Like you I'm tempted to accept prematurely, but I suppose it's a sound idea to wait for more options to come in. For mental health reasons, I'm going to continue to go on refusing to acknowledge the increasingly marginal status of pt in the academy. I'm sure we'll all end up gainfully employed at top-tier research institutions.
