  1. Just to repeat what others have already said, I would strongly advise you to focus your efforts elsewhere re: improving your application. I very much doubt your GRE scores will negatively affect your chances in any meaningful way. I got a 148 on the quant, 163 on verbal, and 4.5 on writing.
  2. I just received a (kind of) acceptance from UVA. The DGS said they liked my file, and while not offering an official admit yet, want to know if they'd still be in consideration. I went ahead and informed them I'll likely be attending Cornell (political theory), so hopefully someone else gets the spot. I also just barely turned down Michigan's offer.
  3. Still haven't heard anything from Chicago. I realize this was asked a few days ago, but it seems like a number of rejections have been sent out since then, but is anyone else still anticipating a response? I'm considering sending another email to see what the deal is, but considering Chicago's track record on that front I imagine I shouldn't bother.
  4. I can claim a Hopkins acceptance! Political theory.
  5. I can't help but think that Hopkins will be any day now. This well exceeds (by a whole 2 days!) the notification dates over the past 3 years.
  6. My sense is that most of the people who were frustrated by this comment were so because they assumed the author was white.
  7. Impossible to say with total certainty at this point, but yeah, more likely than not.
  8. So apparently UVA has sent out 4 admits staggered throughout the last two weeks? What on god's green earth are they doing over there??
  9. So I just heard back from the person at Cornell, and they assured me that it wouldn't have any effect whatsoever.
  10. I just emailed a grad school admin actually. I was hesitant initially, as maybe just asking could leave a bad impression, but obviously the stakes are much higher if I'm wrong about this, and I really need to be sure.
  11. I was wondering if anyone had some thoughts on whether or not it's a bad idea to withdraw from a few classes your last semester before grad school. I was recently accepted to two of my top-choice graduate programs (hurrah!). My acceptance was, as I understand at this point, only conditional regarding my actually graduating at the end of this semester. I am very much on track to do so, however, I am a triple major and have grown really tired of my last unfinished area of study. Note, this is not the area I am going into for my PhD. At this point I'm very much tempted to withdraw from the two classes I'm currently taking that would finish my major. Beyond preparing for grad. school and making all of the requisite visits to campus, I am working on an honors thesis in which I am very much invested, and I am trying to pick up extra hours at work to save up for the fall. These classes are really just serving as distractions at this point and I'd really just as soon get a W for them and not have to deal with the additional stress in what is, already, a fairly stressful time. Of course, in my personal statements to these programs I discussed my triple-major, and they're certainly going to see two Ws on my transcript if I follow through with this. Would I have any cause for concern that this could spark some sort of revoked acceptance? I plan on switching it to a minor, so I would have a two majors, one with honors, and a minor in the field I'd be abandoning. Also, I have emailed my thesis supervisor to get her advice on this matter and am waiting for a reply on that front. I'm just interested in taking in as many perspectives on this as possible. Not sure if this would matter, but I'd remain in two other classes.
  12. They sent out acceptances on the 15th last year. I'm not sure if their academic calendar is different this year, but considering that I'm strongly expecting early next week, potentially late this week.
  13. I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANYTHING. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TURN OFF CAPS LOCK, I'M VERY SORRY.
