Calatoara Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Trachtenberg has started sending out admittance emails!
gwualum4mpp Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Ahhh! Exciting. So Calatoara, I presume you got one? If so, congratulations! I just checked my application but...nothing! Crossing my fingers
Calatoara Posted February 20, 2014 Author Posted February 20, 2014 Yeah. It's weird. I got the email, but my status in the online application says I'm still in review. This is probably where I'll go since I just moved to DC due to landing an awesome job.
Calatoara Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 The funding decisions haven't been made yet, according to the email I got. I actually calmed down enough to read through it, and it says that I'll get another email in a few days from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences to log on and view my official admissions notification letter. I'm not sure if funding decisions will be listed in that letter, or if it will still be a bit before I hear about it.
cloud9876 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Congrats Calatoara! Has anyone else gotten a decision? I wonder if they're releasing MPP decisions at this time as well?
spat Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I have been frantically checking my email since I saw this post! Then, I noticed that you're applying for MPA. I hope that means MPP rolls out soon too!
BenjaminLin Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I'm also applying for the MPP in Trachtenberg. The status shows it's under review.
gwualum4mpp Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Hey all, just got an email from GW Trachtenberg saying I was accepted into their MPP program! No internal funding, but I did apply for the Wolcott fellowship so there is hope. It's my first email so I'm happy to know I'll be somewhere in the fall. Good luck to the other GW prospectives

Ana Pascal Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Along with many, I got an admission email today. And likewise, no internal funding.
ManekiNeko31 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Accepted, with no internal funding here as well. cloud9876 1
valerio Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Received admission of MPP as well. NO INTERNAL FUNDING. Well, the program looks fine but I do not really know if it is a terrific place to go. The majority of its classes will be on evenings and I guess it is easy to find internships, giving its location and your free day time. If there is a way for me to find scholarships, I must opt for this program without hesitation. GOOD LUCK @ the other programs, the decision of which has not come yet.
cloud9876 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Yeah, I was accepted on the 24th too with no funding.
pavlik Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I also was accepted this week with no internal funding.
PleasentPark Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Ditto. Accepted, with no internal funding here as well.
ModusMan Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Congrats to everyone! I am a little late to this thread. I got my acceptance to the MPA program at GWU as well. I am very excited. So does it seem like those who are not receiving funding were notified with their acceptance email? I am holding out hope on getting an offer.

Yes, it was stated directly in my admission e-mail/letter that I wasn't awarded funding. If it doesn't say that in your letter, then perhaps you will get some funding. G'luck.
spat Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Since it seems like most of us didn't receive any internal funding, I want to throw this question out there: Is GWU still a contender for you? How do you plan on funding it? I can't seem to justify denying aid elsewhere to attend GW. Many current students have high praises for GWU including stating that they turned down significant aid offers else where. I'm wondering how they're paying for it. I understand that GW's biggest draw is its location and network in DC, but I wonder if the salaries students earn while attending GW are enough to not have to take out significant amounts of loans. pavlik 1
valerio Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 That is true. I was not funded internally and considering if it is worth going there. For domestic students, GW might be a good choice, considering its terrific location and amazing networking. But for international students, this may not be an ideal option, giving the requirement of citizens only for many placements and internships and its comparable living cost to Mahattan. It is truly hard to make a decision.
ModusMan Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I wonder this as well even though I am in the pool for funding. The debt from just living in that region for two years will be burdensome.

I understand that GW's biggest draw is its location and network in DC, but I wonder if the salaries students earn while attending GW are enough to not have to take out significant amounts of loans. Honestly, it's not much of a contender at this point--I agree 100% that I couldn't justify the expense of GWU. I wasn't even strongly considering it until late December, when I applied thinking I'd have a shot at some funding. Apparently not. I've been admitted to MPP programs at both Georgetown and American at this point, so the DC location has no pull for GWU for me now, as I'm still waiting to hear back from their funding (and I have high hopes for both).
spat Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Here's to hoping for some $$ from Georgetown. I hope they email us soon. pavlik 1
ModusMan Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 For sure. Word on the street was late this week or early next week. spat 1
ferd Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I was admitted to the PhD program at GWU, and given an "alternate" funding status. Definitely won't attend without funding...
