Johnny_Boy Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Hi guys I contacted a prof at a university who is about to retire and not taking any new student for PhD. In our email conversation, I told him that I was extremely interested to join his institution. In return, he suggested me to wait for the decision. I was wondering if I should ask him for some kind of recommendation to the admission committee as the deadline to send decisions is rapidly nearing! Looking forward for your opinions! iphi Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Uh, no? He obviously didn't want you to contact him so why would you ask him for that huge favor?
Johnny_Boy Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Thanks Macchiato for your reply. I saw two acceptances today and yesterday from Cornell PhD Mechanical. The first round of acceptances has already been sent out on Feb 7/8. A week earlier I sent an email to the graduate admission chair about my updated resume and passion to be at Cornell ( I know I should not have done that). But do you think that I still have a chance to get admitted as some people may leave spot for us?
iphi Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Sure, there's still a chance, but asking for people who tell you to be patient to do something extra for you is a good way to get rejected!
dhg12 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Yeah... I don't think "wait for a decision" should be taken as "bug people to go out of their way/stick their neck out for you" dhg12 1

Yes, dude. I think it is better to wait than to irritate them. Yeah... I don't think "wait for a decision" should be taken as "bug people to go out of their way/stick their neck out for you" Haha..yes you are right. I will wait for the decision any way.
