Dff Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Hello everyone, I wanted to consult with you on something very confusing. Last week, I got a very nice, enthusiastic, official acceptance letter from a school. On Sunday, I got a "clarifying note" from the same POI. This was a completely informal email were I was told that I was wait listed. Is this common or normal? I am very confused!
fuzzylogician Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It's not normal. Are you sure you got an official acceptance? If so, it sounds like someone unfortunately screwed up.

If an acceptance comes directly from a professor it is unofficial (even if it sounds formal). Official letters have to be sent from the graduate school. It's sounds like they messed up. Sorry that's a bummer. Hope you get off the waitlist though!

This is the first time I've ever read of a case like this. Did you get any form of letter with with the school's letterhead and signed by a chairperson?
