  1. They wrote back and told me the committee met again and they found funding for me. I visited campus and accepted the offer. Thanks for asking!
  2. Hi! I'll be in the Ph.D. in Literature program. Did you visit South Bend? I did and really enjoyed the campus.
  3. Hello everyone! I was admitted into a school but I would really like to visit and get a sense of how it is before accepting it. It seems however that they want to be informed of my decision like right now (and I just got my official letter). Is there a way I could tell them that I want to get a sense of the place before I accept? This seems logical to me since I haven't visited before. In fact, I thought this was customary. Thank you for your help! Thanks!

  5. Hello everyone, I wanted to consult with you on something very confusing. Last week, I got a very nice, enthusiastic, official acceptance letter from a school. On Sunday, I got a "clarifying note" from the same POI. This was a completely informal email were I was told that I was wait listed. Is this common or normal? I am very confused!

  7. Has anyone heard from the Comparative Literature program at UCSB?
  8. Thank you for your answers! I'll just wait then
  9. Hi Nyctophile! Are you talking about the Comparative Literature program?? Thanks!
  10. Thank you so much for your answers!! They make me feel a lot better, for some reason I had assumed that contacting someone was fundamental to be considered, but I guess I'll just be patient and wait Good luck to everyone!
  11. Hello everyone! I applied to several schools but didn't contact any professors in some of them (which I now regret). The administrative assistant at one of them told me that the committee is "still reviewing applications but she's hopeful that they'll make decisions in the next few weeks". Should I use this chance to contact some professors since they haven't decided or is it too late?? I am just worried that I won't be considered for admission because I did not contacting any faculty members. Thanks!!

  15. Hola Yesi!

Hi! Is there anyone out there in a nonfiction MFA? I just want to get a bit more information about them, is it too hard to get in? I can't find much information about these programs. Are they very uncommon? What can you tell me about nonfiction in general? Any info would be appreciated
  18. Hello!! I have similar interests, I am curious as to which programs you found! Thanks!
  19. Hello!! Has anyone here applied or heard back from NYU's Creative Writing in Spanish program?
  20. Hello!! Has anyone here applied or heard back from NYU's Creative Writing in Spanish program?
  21. Hey!! I'm very sorry to hear about your GRE! If it helps, I will share what most people have told me about my situation: everything happens for a reason, and maybe there is something better out there waiting for you! I really hope 2013 turns out to be your year I know it's hard but we have to keep on trying. In the meantime, enjoy life as much as you can! About my GRE I did well on the verbal part (luckily for me, many of the "difficult" words in English are actually very similar to those in Spanish), and poorly on the math section. I got good news today, I got accepted into Iowa. I am now waiting to hear about TAs or any type of financial aid. I hope you don't let this whole situation make you feel bad about yourself and feel satisfied that you did your best. I do recommend the Kaplan book, it will definitely improve your scores. I studied with that and the Kaplan vocabulary flashcards. Good luck and I hope to hear back from you !
  22. Hello! How are you? I had bad news about a month ago. They told me my scholarship had a funding cut and decided to cut me off (I guess Creative Writing was the least important subject for them ). They told me this after most of teh deadlines had passed, but I had a chance to apply to Iowa's and NYU's Creative Writing in Spanish Programs. I wanted to apply to USC but the deadline for applying to assistanships had passed. How are you doing with your applications??
  23. Hello!! Can anyone tell me about NYU's Creative Writing in Spanish MFA program? ¡¡Hola!! ¿Alguien me podría hablar sobre el programa de NYU, escritura creativa en español?
  24. Hey!!! How did you do on your GRE? I took mine yesterday! In the end, I decided to go for writing. I still need to know where my sponsor is going to recommend sending my applications, but I listed NYU (they have a Creative Writing in Spanish MFA), Alabama, UC San Diego and WUSTL amongst others. I wish luck with your application process!!
  25. Hey! I got an answer from USC Comp Lit program, they don't allow you to take creative classes. To be honest, I don't know whether I should apply to Creative Writing programs or Comparative Literature ones, I think I should know by now. I don't know what I could do with a creative writing degree back in my country and I have never attempted to write fiction in English (my native language is Spanish).Though writing is my paaassiiooon. Don't worry about the GRE, you'll do fine and they pay more attention to the writing samples anyway I am not thinking about my GRE yet because I am preparing my essays and things like that. I hope I will devote myself to study soon. Good luck with everything!! let me know if you find any other interesting programs.
