When do you hear about funding?

Just wondering - if no funding is mentioned in my intial e-mail/pdf letter offering admission, does that mean that I am not being offered funding at all? Or do some universities offer it later, say perhaps after you accept? If anyone has specific info about university of Victoria and funding offers please let me know..

One school (Washington University) informed me of my merit-based scholarship in the acceptance e-mail. Another school (Boston U) sent me the scholarship information in my acceptance letter that came through the mail, however, they had already informed me of my acceptance through e-mail 10 days prior. I believe it varies with each school and the best thing to do is contact them and ask what their funding options are and what you can/will receive.

I just feel uncomfortable asking about funding directly, is that something that students do on a regular basis (i.e. it wouldn't be considered inappropriate)? I know for sure I will ask before the deadline to accept or reject their offer, I just feel uneasy about it I guess..

They can't retract your acceptance and they understand that it does play a factor in your decision. Obviously ask with tact and class and ask the correct person, i.e. not the professor you want to do research with as they won't likely know anything about your financial aid package.

I sent an e-mail off this morning as respectful as possible, they responded fairly quickly (and nicely) to say that the school doesn't make funding decisions until June!! So much for that helping me make a decision between schools - or planning my next year. Sigh.

I completely understand, one of my top two choices still has to get back to me on my need-based financial aid and I only have 3 weeks left to decide.
