Hey everyone! I'm new here and have yet to apply for graduate programs in the future.

In the meantime, I was wondering if you guys knew any good PhD or Applied programs that specialize in the study of Second Language Acquisition (or Language Acquisition in children would be good too) that you would suggest. I know that my school (UIUC) has a good program for this but I wanted to know other options outside of CU.

Thanks!

Maryland, Carnegie Mellon, Michigan State all have separate PhD programs in SLA. Check out their websites.

Also check out UW-Madison and University of Arizona's PhD programs in Second Language Acquisition.  Rutgers' Spanish and Portuguese Dept. has a separate PhD track for Bilingualism and SLA as well.

I'm not enrolled in any of them, but can attest that they are all wonderful!  Attended conferences put on by the first two and have interacted quite a bit with the faculty and students at Rutgers.

Happy hunting!

I talked to a new professor in the department of Linguistics (UIUC) who is incorporating ERP with SLA, bilingualism, etc and although I'm so interested in this field (next year I'm writing my own scholarly paper as I work on an ERP lab examining syntax processing in Korean/Mandarin Chinese & English), it seems like there's not many programs with these studies.

Does anyone know any programs that incorporate ERPs or fMRIs in this topic? I've been studying Language & The Brain since I started undergrad and I really want to use that knowledge as well.

As a completely biased answer, the University of Kansas has an awesome intersection of SLA and ERP research--along with connections to the medical school and access to both EEG and fMRI technology as well. There are two very active labs in these areas, the SLA lab the Neurolinguistics lab, and many students (like myself) work in both of them. If you ever have any more questions about KU, feel free to PM me!

Figured I'd bump this thread. Has anyone applied to SLA programs for fall 2015? I've applied to Carnegie Melon, Maryland, Buffalo, and FSU (foreign and second language education). Just curious who else is out there.

I've applied only to Maryland. I REALLY hope I get accepted. Good luck to you!
