Accepted Students: ETSU Fall 2014

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone!

Just reaching out to accepted students at ETSU. Curious why you have chosen/not chosen to accept here and why? What you know about the program and area . . . plus any other information. I will be attending the open house coming up and wanted to see if anyone else might be attending as well. I really want some inside information on this program!

Any information would be great!!

I've been accepted into ETSU as well! I recieved my undergraduate degree here, its relatively close to my hometown, and I also LOVED all the professors I had for my communicative disorders minor (speech pathology is not offered as a major here). That's mainly why I went ahead and accepted the offer. Also, I worked as an academic performance scholarship worker in the audiology & speech-language pathology for the past two years, and I just felt really comfortable with the department and how the program worked.  Johnson City is a great area! I am from a VERY small town, so for me, It's a rather large city, but for most people it's probably not that large at all. However, it has everything you would need in a close distance. I have some friends that are in the program now, and I've heard nothing but good things.

I have also been accepted into ETSU!  I was offered a GA position and right now it's looking like my first choice because of the price.  Unfortunately I can't make the open house, but i am going to be down there just a couple days before to check out the campus.  I was put in touch with a girl who goes there now that is in the program and am going to talk to her about the school, area, program, etc tomorrow or tuesday.  She said she loves ETSU, so i'm excited to hear more!  I will post once I talk to her and let you know what she says.

Thank you for the info! Congrats on your acceptance! Its great to hear a little bit about the "inside scoop." I'm from a VERY small town, with no traffic and no crime. Ha ha. So it will be an adjustment for sure. Thanks again for writing:)

Congrats on your acceptance! I understand about your decision . . . I was offered a tuition scholarship, so its kind of hard to ignore the $. I can't wait to understand more about what might be doing as my "job," as it requires 8 hr a week. Yes, I can't wait to hear more about what you find out! When I make the trip this weekend, which is about 4 hr from my house, I hope to look at some apartments just to get an idea of what's there. I will get all the info I can about a place before I move there for 2 years!

I spoke to the girl who goes there now and she said she really likes ETSU and the area.  She said it's a nice place, things within walking distance and everything you need is around.  The teachers she said are very approachable, friendly and get to know you on a personal level.  She said it's much different than her undergrad school, much quieter not so much of a party atmosphere and that a lot of girls in her cohort are married.  She said the program overall isn't bad, not completely stressful and overwhelming like i have heard some programs to be.  She said on the weekends she has time to relax, have a social life or whatever she wants to do.  She said Johnson City is very pretty, a lot of hiking trails and outdoorsy things to do as well. Class times are in the evenings like 530-830, but they are trying out morning classes recently and most girls like that better (8am-11am) then clinic til 5.  She said the clinics are all new and very nice.  She takes 15 credits a semester, she said thats standard, which i'm a little confused cause I thought the program was only 48 credits, but 15 times 4 semesters would be 60 cause summer session is only like two 1-credit courses or something so i'm not sure.  She walks to campus from her apartment, parking can be hard on campus.  She said the weather is great, i'm not sure where youre from, but she is from Michigan and i'm from NY so were used to cold weather!  Also an orientation was held in the summer a week before classes start to get to know your cohort and the program.  I think that was everything hope this helps!

Thanks SO MUCH! It does! Its good to know that she likes it. I'm from Georgia, so I know the heat pretty well, yuck! Yeah, I'm not sure about the hours bc I thought it was only nine. Do you remember what her apartments were, bc I'm going to about 5 or so for tour this Friday to scope out what is there. That would be awesome for walking distance :)

I would definitely check out Evergreen Terrace apartments if I were you. I have lived here for 2 years, and They're very quiet...perfect for people who have to study! Also I think They are the most affordable. They may not be the nicest around, but they're definitely functional! Lol my only complaint would be that the kitchen is really small, but the lower cost in rent and the close proximity to campus makes it worth it in my mind! :) hope this helps!

Hey, I loved it!! I learned a lot about the program and the area. I went apartment hunting while I was there as well. I think etsu will be my choice! I was really impressed with all of the medical setting opportunities they have for students. All in all, I really liked it:)
