Arcanelady27 Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Hey arcanelady27, I'm sorry to hear about Brooklyn college. Don't forget what you told me, that this is not the end of your road. This is the worst day but there will be better for you. The way I see it, getting rejected is a humbling experience and it only makes you hungrier for the finish line. If you want it, you'll get it. You've had a roller coaster ride with the CUNYs this application season. My offer is still on the table with GRE studying, message me if you want to meet up and study. If not, good luck with your future endeavors. I'll be rooting for you!!! Thanks LDadvocate, I just wish they would have let me know right away. I am definitely going to reapply next year. However, I am going to find out why I was denied this time around. This way, I can work on what needs to be work on and hopefully have a different result.
Arcanelady27 Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 I am determined to get into Brooklyn College next year. I have made an appointment to meet with the graduate deputy to discuss why I was denied and what I can do to gain admission.
Slpintraining Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I am determined to get into Brooklyn College next year. I have made an appointment to meet with the graduate deputy to discuss why I was denied and what I can do to gain admission. Hey Arcanelady27, I've been following this topic for sometime and decided to finally reply about Brooklyn College. I was an undergrad there and just graduated last semester. It was horrible and two years prior I was in a community college that surpassed Brooklyn College in many ways including professors, professionalism, and respect. I know I was just an undergrad but the professors are the same for the graduate level, I have met many graduate students, and have completed over 50 hours of observations in the graduate clinic. I highly suggest to stay away from Brooklyn College.
Arcanelady27 Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 Thanks for your input... I am kind of getting frustrated with BC. I keep asking the grad deputy if I can take classes on a non matriculated basis and she never answers my question. It is either yes or no! She was the one who recommended me taking classes on a non matriculated basis!
ImHis Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Arcanelady, I'm sorry for your news. I'm sure it will all work out in the end. You're so determined. You told me a few posts ago that you did a MS? Does your school where you got your MS offer SLP and have you considered applying there?
Arcanelady27 Posted May 8, 2014 Author Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks Patont... I did my MS at the College of New Rochelle. Unfortunately, it does not have an SLP program. I plan on retaking the GRE and possibly taking some grad courses as a non-matriculated student. I also work for a hospital and I am trying to do a volunteer research position within its SLP department. I have not yet begun to fight! Next year, I will be in school!
Arcanelady27 Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Ok..so I bumped this thread for all those who are waiting for Brooklyn College. I am pretty much in the same spot as last year. I have not heard or been interviewed. However, I was told that they are still interviewing and we should know something by April 15, if not by the end of the month. I was told this on Wednesday April 1st. They are on spring break now. I have a slightly higher GRE score and I did some volunteer/observation work at a prestigous rehab hospital. I also have two classes as a non matriculated grad student under my belt. I need a drink! The waiting is killing me at this point! missymel17 1
Arcanelady27 Posted April 16, 2015 Author Posted April 16, 2015 Below is the response I received from Brooklyn College this morning. The process is on going. I can tell you that the first batch of admissions have gone out, we are awaiting responses. Depending on what we get back, more interviews may possibly be done, but it is unlikely. A second batch of admissions will probably go out next week, but that would be from students who already have been interviewed. The program director does hold applications until some time in May, so anything is possible. I hope this was helpful.
gy_son Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Thanks Arcanelady27 for keeping us updated! I still haven't heard from them and I was not interviewed, so I will probably just assume its a rejection. It is quite irritating that they take so long, but oh well.

I am pretty much in the same boat as you and expecting the same result. This is my second year applying to this school.
Arcanelady27 Posted April 22, 2015 Author Posted April 22, 2015 I emailed program director. She stated the evaluation process is done and letters will go out the end of this week. Translation...I have been rejected for the second time. I am so tired and really discouraged.

It will happen. Just keep working on your stats! My gpa was very low and I kept at it and it finally happened. I applied to 11 schools and one accepted me and that is all I needed. I understand the frustrations and how tiring it is, but have hope!

Hopefully, this will bring my GPA up! I noticed the schools are not focusing on my undergrad GPA which is a 3.01. My post bacc GPA is slightly higher 3.38. I am hoping an A will bring it to at least a 3.4 or 3.5.
