  1. Hi, You may not get into USU's grad school, but you certainly can get into another grad school. Many schools look at students holistically and look at other factors (e.g., personal statement, GRE, volunteering within the field. Please do not count yourself out because you can't get into one school. I am an older student and it took years for me to get in after several attempts. You can do this!
  2. I got into grad school with an overall GPA of 3.5. Your 3.73 is great! Remember many schools look at the full package, not just GPA!
  3. Hi, I am currently a grad student in SLP at Mercy College. The interview is group interview with about 10 candidates. There is a writing sample. We were all asked what our hobbies were, and what drew us to Mercy's program. We were all asked an individual question. I remember my question being what drove me to the field of Speech-Language Pathology. Please feel free to pick my brain! LOL I will try to remember what I can as my interview was almost two years ago!
  4. Hi, Yes, I feel you should retake the A&P and Phonetics class. As for taking physics, that is to satisfy the requirements for ASHA to get licensure. I am not sure what the other class is in that you are being suggested to retake, but if you got below a B I would retake it. Do not give up! Look for grad schools that look at everything an applicant brings forth, not just his their GPA. Do some related volunteer work if you can.
  5. Mercy College has also closed due to the coronavirus. As of next Monday, we will have classes and midterms online. The following week is spring break. The school stated it will reassess the situation after spring break. I am not 100 percent sure what the school is going to do about missed clincial hours due to this pandemic.
  6. Your stats are better than mine and I am in grad school. ASHA only requires a C or better in physics or chemistry, human based biology, and statistics. For the GRE, try and score at least a 300...150 V and 150 Q with at least a 4.0 on the AW and you should be fine. if you come close, that is good as well because I scored 152 V, 141 Q and a 4.0 AW. Your stats are good. Just work on your personal statement and GRE scores...they last five years.
  7. Yes, there is a writing sample. The interview is a group interview. There is a point in interview where everyone is asked the same question and then we were asked individual questions. The question I was asked was why did you choose the career of Speech-Language Pathology? We were asked fun questions like what do you like to do in your free time? Overall, a very relaxed interview process. Good Luck!
  8. I did my undergrad at Hofstra, but in a different major. Great school!
  9. I work for a hospital. The hospital is giving me 7K a year.
  10. Yes, I was asked what was the latest book I read. I wasn't asked any SLP content questions. What made you want to enter the field of Speech-Language Pathology? I can't recall the rest at this moment, but if do I will post.
  11. Hi, Mine is at 11:00 a.m. Yes, they are group interviews.
  12. Hi All, I have an interview with Mercy College on Thursday. I saw that few people were accepted the same day they interviewed this year. For those that were interviewed and accepted, can you please tell us how was the interview process? Was it a long interview? What questions did they ask? Thanks in advance
  13. I also have an interview with Mercy College next Thursday. Good Luck to us both! ?
  14. I was accepted to NYU's online SLP program in 2017 and I live in NY. I think instate students shy away from NYU is because it is costly.
  15. I went on an interview for grad school. One of the questions the admissions committee asked was why did you choose this profession? Another question that was asked was tell me about yourself? I found this question a little odd, but I was asked what is the latest book you have read?
  16. I found the NYU program quite difficult. The format takes some getting use to The online learning I found quite challenging because the professor did not lecture per-say. Instead, the professor took questions students had on the course materials. The online gathering was only for one hour per course.
  17. I am soon to be 40. I agree; the whole process is intimidating. I have been trying to get into a school for sometime. I was accepted to NYU's online program, but it just was not a fit, so here I am again. I'm praying to get into Mercy College part-time. I wish you the best!
  18. I do not have a personal statement. However, I have an essay I need to complete as part of the application process. I am willing to swap. PM me
  19. Name the 5 components of language Name 2 speech disorders Name 2 language disorders Do you have an interview? If so, when ? Good Luck
  20. I'd retake it to get the AWA score up to at least 4. Best of luck!
  21. Has anyone had the experience of their transcripts NOT making it to CSDCAS? ?
  22. Hi Dr. Conner, I am in the process of completing my application. I am hoping to get an interview.
  23. Hello all, I am back... I realized online learning is not for me and decided to reapply to two traditional programs, Mercy College and Lehman College. Any current students of these programs have any tips on getting past the interview?
