Husband went back to school to get his BSc, so financially we were forced to move back to Coquitlam. I'll be commuting but am worried about burnout. Using transit I take 4 buses and the trip is almost 2.5 hours each way! (I live in a residential area of Coquitlam with poor bus service.)

OMG! 5 hours total commute? That sucks :(

Well I figured I'd run into another MA Econ student around here! Where are you coming from?

I'm coming from Toronto. What about you?

Hello all!

I'll be starting my MA in art history at UBC in the fall. A little panicked about housing as well, as I'm not sure I will be able to visit beforehand to find a place. Either I can come for a few days in late July to hopefully go to viewings, or I'll be coming in late August, staying at an airbnb place and hoping for the best...For those of you that live/have lived in Vancouver before, do you think there will be many people showing apartments in July for leases beginning in September?

And I think I know the answer to this question, but...would it be prohibitively difficult to commute from the Sunshine Coast? I've seen some ads for small anexes/cabins there that look so lovely, with beautiful views and are incredibly cheap! And I will only have two seminars in my first semester (1 day a week each) and I don't think I'll be TAing until at least the second semester...

I think if you're looking in the latter half of July you could find a place renting for September, definitely.

I think commuting from the Sunshine Coast would be time consuming and annoying, personally. You'd have to ferry back and forth and it would take a while (I think; I've never been myself but have friends who have).

If anyone is looking for places to rent, look at Georgian Towers and Ocean Park Place apartments. It's a bit of a walk to the bus stop (~10 minutes) but the rent/location is better than some I've seen.

ETA: I just looked and there are only 1 bedrooms listed on the site, but we got a 2 bedroom for $1680.
