Just got word from UBC that I won doctoral CGS! Could not be more happy. Rejected first as an incoming PhD student. Applied (and rejected) again in my first year, but then failed comps and was kicked out of the program. Considered dropping out of academia all together but decided to stay and transfer to another PhD program. It's been hard accepting so much failure (especially comps), but winning SSHRC has finally given me some confidence back. Good luck to all!

Im from UBC and got my letter in the mail today. Waitlisted with 12.6. No idea where this lies relative to other waitlisters though.

I heard from UBC yesterday. The admin person in my department sent me an email about my result.

I got word from my awards office that I was waitlisted for sshrc. Does anyone know what the waitlist is like and how common it is to receive the award off of the waitlist? Hoping to know so I can either maintain my hopes or prepare for disappointment. thanks

Hey! I'll be joining UBC in the fall for an M.A. Economics. I'm from Ontario but have never been to Vancouver. I have no idea where to live, nor do I know anyone in the city. I prefer to stay in a nice little studio apartment nearby campus, but I don't know if that is possible or feasible. I am currently living abroad for work at the moment, so have not had much time to research these things, but I am moving back home next month to start preparations. Looking forward to the mountains and beach!
