To those who have attended previously:

Is the full cost of tuition due at the time of registration or is it possible to place a deposit and pay the tuition in full at a later time?

I can afford the tuition, but I cannot afford to pay it all next month (and I want to register early). I'd prefer not to have to put the complete cost on my credit card...

Congratulations to you too!!

I'm excited because I wasn't even studying linguistics when the last one was held (or knew that the institute was a thing, for that matter).

I got a fellowship, too! I emailed them back with my acceptance right away but haven't heard anything from them since. Is that normal?

I emailed them twice because I was worried they missed my email but someone replied they did in fact receive it haha. She said they'll get back to us soon about registration, etc!

Reviving this thread because registration is now open!

Does anyone have insight on whether it's preferable to register for courses as pass/fail or letter grade?  Does it matter or is it just a matter of personal preference?

I think it depends on whether you want to transfer credit or not.

I 'm not planning to transfer credit but I'm still not sure which is better a letter grade or pass/fail. I mean if I wanted to apply to phd programs would the transcript matter at all?

Anybody planning to stay in I-House? I'm imagining lots of cooking out together and having a fun time. I grew up without A/C, heat doesn't bother me.

Also, to anybody who has attended previously, what's the preferred dress code for graduate students? I imagine this will be a good opportunity for networking and I don't want to look like a slob, but don't want to be overdressed either.

Hey folks - anyone looking to live off-campus with linguist roomies? There are a bunch of summer sublets available on the U Chicago marketplace and Air BnB, including some single bedrooms, but it might be nice to get a bunch of us together and rent a multi-bedroom place. Me and 1 other person are looking for places, so message me if you're interested in joining us.
