Newcareergal Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Has anyone sent a deposit to a school and decided to go elsewhere? Is it possible to get your deposit back?
adacot Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I am also curious about this! I am applying to a bunch of schools with different deadlines/timelines, but they also seem to have non-synchronized and very short windows where you can make a decision! I am worried that I will be forced to decide on a school before all admission decisions have come out for me to consider all factors such as financial aid and such.
Newcareergal Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 That is exactly what happened to me. One school gave me three weeks so I sent a deposit in case I didn't get into my first choice. I got my first choice acceptance Friday. Between both deposits and all the application fees it's a lot of money!
ilovelab Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 They should refund a portion of it back. it depends on how long you waited after the deadline. Or is this before the acceptance deadline?
Newcareergal Posted November 25, 2014 Author Posted November 25, 2014 I sent the day I got admitted. They said it's non refundable.
TheCrow Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 My understanding has always been that deposits are non-refundable.
Between Fields Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 The whole point of a deposit is to make it so that you've got a financial incentive not to switch schools at the last minute on them.
