informatives Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 (edited) I'm headed to DC this week for an MA interview at SAIS. I think this might be a new thing, as I searched the forums and was unable to find any previous topics about it. Apparently it's just half an hour, with second-year MA students. I'm not too worried about it, but I'd like to make a good impression (obviously). Has anyone gone through the process this cycle? ReinventOneself Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 I'm headed to DC this week for an MA interview at SAIS. I'm not too worried about it, but I'd like to make a good impression (obviously). Has anyone gone through the process this cycle? Did they indicate to you that the interview was required, or was it optional? I applied early this time, but haven't gotten any communication regarding an interview. Will update if I do.
Hina Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Hi informatives, I did my SAIS interview in early October, and I think it went quite well (fingers crossed!). Like you said, it was with an 2nd year MA student. Mine lasted a little over an hour, and some of the questions were what you would expect -- Tell me about yourself, why SAIS, etc. But my interviewer definitely threw in quite a few curve balls as well. I can't remember the exact questions but I do remember him asking me some unexpected (and quite interesting actually) questions. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I'm hoping it will hold at least some weight in my application. And reinventoneself, the interview is optional. If you don't live in DC (or don't travel there often to see your boyfriend like I do), then I believe you can schedule to have the interview over Skype. I hope that helps! Good luck!!
lsaiki87 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I think the interviews are optional for US citizens but required for non-US citizens applying to SAIS Europe. I did one over Skype which I think really helped my applications. Best part was that the SAIS Europe Director interviewed me himself! Good luck with your applications, everyone!
Bombaygunner Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Has anyone else has their interview yet? I've got mine on Friday. From what I gather, they want to see how you "think" rather than simply what you "know".
Poli92 Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I haven't heard anything. *begins panicking*
ccorc3 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I haven't heard anything. *begins panicking* Same.
Bombaygunner Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 I wouldn't worry. I think they only interview us dastardly international students. Or just the SAIS Bologna folks. Something like that.
