Darkgod
Hey, I was wondering if it is OK for my recommenders to give their gmail addresses for reference?
Page228
I know I've seen at least one place that specifically said no. (I can't remember where, but I'm sure they're not the only ones.) Might be best to check with the schools you have in mind.
MathCat
Almost all the schools I applied to required institution e-mails. They explicitly stated that free emails like gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc. are not acceptable. I believe this is to prevent students from creating fake accounts in their professor's name and uploading their own letters. Applemiu

Same here, but there is probably a provision for sending a physical paper copy thru the postal service for those cases where the person writing the letter is no longer associated with the institution and no longer has access to the institutional email address. tuckbro
All of my schools required academic references with institutional email addresses.
VulpesZerda
One of my writers submitted with his Gmail because that's the only account he ever really uses. I had ten schools and only one asked me to send to his school account. I didn't think it was a big deal...I've had no issues. Ritwik
