2012latam Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I recently submitted my SOP to two school, checked it probably more than 50 times for errors, and others checks it as well. I realized I mispelled ancompany/organization's acronym. I Basically, instead of the correct "ACD", I was typing "ACB". How serious is this mistake? and does it mess up my chances a lot?
future.grad.student Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 I'm pretty sure you're fine! I made a similar mistake (but instead of a letter it was an entire word, although it was pretty close lol) and I don't think they've noticed. When they're reading over our statement I doubt they have time to notice little things like that, especially if it's a good statement. Don't worry.
rising_star Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 You'll be fine. There's really no reason to sweat a mistake as small as that one. Good luck!
eragon Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 That's okay. Lots of people make such minor mistakes. That wont be an issue
Cali_Coast Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Instead of starting a new thread I have a similar question. I made a mistake on my resume and no matter how many times people read it, no one caught it. In the skills section where put what I have experience in, I start one bullet point where it just says * Experience with and that's it. I literally left off the rest of the sentence and no one caught it. How bad do you think this is considering it's leaving out words completely but on the other hand it's not my SOP?
ssynny Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I'm surprised no one caught that, but I wouldn't fret a ton over it. As you said, it's not your SoP where you're being judged on your writing. Did you talk about this missing experience at all in the SoP? And obviously I would fix that now before you try to submit your resume in the future
Cali_Coast Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 No, definitely didn't mention it in my SOP. Just still surprised no one caught it. I'm gathering though from reading the message boards that it indeed could be worse by way of mistakes on my SOP. Hopefully admissions won't care since it's just a resume.
ssynny Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Oh you're totally fine. It's not an important part of the app. Good luck!
