Can this mail be considered as an admission without funding? Do all PhD students get funding? What do I need to do for that? I contacted the dept and they asked me to contact the faculties. I mailed the grad admissions but no reply till now. Please guide me about what to do next!! thanks in advance
iphi Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 First of all, congratulations! Funding is often determined far after this stage. Just hang tight for now, or you can contact your POI asking when they might send you information about that. Usually it's February at the earliest, and some schools won't give you any info until after you accept their offer.
Arkajyoti Posted December 21, 2014 Author Posted December 21, 2014 Thank u .. Do I need to do anything for securing teaching associate-ship or research associate-ship? for research asst. i should contact faculty.. but what for teaching?
rising_star Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Contact the department's graduate program secretary to ask about when you'll here about department funding. (Note: before you do that, check the department's site to make sure the information isn't posted there.)
MathCat Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Recommended for admission means you're unofficially admitted. Funding information is usually included in the official letter of acceptance, so wait for that before you ask about it.
nanoE Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Did you get any more information? I received similar email. Are we required to send financial docs before they consider us for funding or we can just wait it out until funding information is available?
shm1369 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 Congrat. I have got this email from osu like you on Feb 02. What did you do?
Pegaesus Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Same situation and my POI mentioned in the SOP also contacted me..what is the best way to respond?

Usually it's February at the earliest, and some schools won't give you any info until after you accept their offer. Hi, If schools only give you financial offer only after you accept their offer how do we suppose to choose which school offer us better funding? In the website of a university I have been accepted posted the following: "Accepting your admissions notifies the appropriate offices (Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Housing, and your academic department) that you are still interested in attending the university. You must accept your admission in order to register for courses, receive financial aid and scholarships or a housing assignment. You may decline your admission after accepting by contacting the appropriate Admissions office." Is it worth it to ask them if I will receive some financial support? Best,
iphi Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Hi, If schools only give you financial offer only after you accept their offer how do we suppose to choose which school offer us better funding? You can't. That is why I dismissed all schools that worked on that model. You CAN ask how many current grad students are funded, and what the pay rate is. Many universities have available info on how much their assistantships pay.
shm1369 Posted April 16, 2015 Posted April 16, 2015 Hi, I have the same situation as you and got admission two months ago but till yet haven't received any financial aid. Have you got it? So what is your suggestion with this admission?
8Phant0m8 Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I just got admission acceptance email to MS Aero/Astro Eng. It asked me to go to website and accept/decline and pay tuition deposit and send official transcript. I don't know what to do. I'm weighing my options right now and if I don't get funding at least half, I may not attend. Do I have to accept and pay deposit now? Should I call the department and ask for any opportunity or individual professors who are seeking assistantships? Thanks
rising_star Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Definitely call the department and ask about funding opportunities before paying a deposit.
