Do University's send LOR reminder emails because I didn't....?

Hi. So one of my LOR writers has yet to submit his letter, but still has a few days until the deadline. I have already submitted my application, and it is currently under review. I logged in today to see if he had submitted it, but he hadn't. However, I did notice that the date of the latest reminder email to my last LOR writer had changed. I sent one out on 12/28, but the last one was sent out on 12/30. Is this unusual? I noticed this happened earlier with the same school after I submitted my application a few weeks earlier. A reminder was sent one out on 12/24...which I did not send out either.

 

So now my LOR writer is probably super annoyed with me, and I'm confused as to why the date keeps changing. My question is: Has a university ever sent out a reminder to a LOR writer? I figure this is the only possible explanation because my application is otherwise complete and under review.

I take it the U system is showing a reminder sent? And that any reminders you sent were through the U system, not a regular email? Some U portals allow this, but not all, that's why I ask. 

 

your writer will not likely get annoyed at you for an automated reminder from the U.

 

it is possible to annoy a writer (I seem to have done that once). Your situation seems like it could be interpreted a number of ways.

I have sent the reminder email 2 times. Once in October when I originally sent it, and again on 12/28. I noticed on December 28 that a reminder had been sent out on 12/24, and when I logged in today to check the status of my application, the system showed that another reminder email was sent out on 12/30.

 

I guess I'm just not sure why the reminder has been sent out two more times without my knowledge when none of the other school's systems have done that.

From talking with my letter writers, sometimes the system does send out reminders automatically. I don't know if they periodically go out or only close to the deadline, but either way, I'm sure your LOR writer won't be annoyed. I'm sure it's specific to either the school or the application/LOR system used, which is why you only noticed that it happened with just this school.

My system doesn't automatically send reminders. However, I bet in your case it was automatic. I doubt people were working on the 24th and 30th to push the button to send reminders.

Some systems send out reminders automatically a set number of days before the deadline. The writer may be annoyed but, if it's beyond your control, then it's beyond your control. All you can do is apologize for the number of reminders, which probably isn't worth doing.
