CommonerCoffee Posted January 4, 2015 Posted January 4, 2015 (edited) Last year there were separate threads for profiles and general admissions waiting/chatting so here is this year's thread for the latter. Just heard back from University of Michigan Biostatistics department with an admission to their Masters and funding to be decided in March. How is everyone else doing? bl24 Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Congrats!! When did you submit your Michigan application? I haven't heard back from them yet
CommonerCoffee Posted January 5, 2015 Author Posted January 5, 2015 Thank you! I submitted mine a bit earlier than the deadline: 11/21/14.
bl24 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 I submitted mine in mid-December, so I hope that's the reason! Oh well.
PackersFan125 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Got an email from UNC. Accepted to their PhD Biostatistics program, no word on funding yet, pretty surprised but excited.
Bespoke Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Got an email from UNC. Accepted to their PhD Biostatistics program, no word on funding yet, pretty surprised but excited. Congratulations, I have not heard from UNC one way or the other. University of Washington Biostatistics came out on this Friday last year. Edited January 9, 2015 by Bespoke
CommonerCoffee Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Same timing this year. Waitlisted by University of Washington Biostatistics PhD.
CommonerCoffee Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Thank you! Definitely getting a bit more worried about things in general after that result. It seems like Harvard Biostatistics PhD offered someone an interview from the results search. Anyone here got that email?
dynamic89 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hey I didn't get an email from Harvard probably cuz I am an international (or just simply not good enough for them). I know that internationals are on a different schedule.that's the only biostats program I've applied tho the rest is all stats
bl24 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) I got waitlisted at UW too, and no email from Harvard. Edited January 10, 2015 by bl24
dynamic89 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Has anyone got admitted to duke stats PhD? I saw one acceptance from the results search.
Bespoke Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I've since been accepted to UNC Biostatistics PhD, but have not heard from University of Washington.
Ergodic Posted January 11, 2015 Posted January 11, 2015 NCSU appears to have sent a few more acceptances last week...haven't received anything from them. My 2nd rejection is taking shape :-(
CommonerCoffee Posted January 13, 2015 Author Posted January 13, 2015 Just a reminder for everyone to keep their phones near them. Missed a phone call from an admissions person in University of Minnesota at first and then called back to learn that I got accepted there. Really awesome guy.
StatsG0d Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Thus far that doesn't look like much for statistics. What's weird is that only one school on my list (Purdue) out of 17 says my application is "Under Review." Not sure if some things just aren't updated or what. It's making me a little anxious haha.
dynamic89 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Same here hey. Washington Stats should be out pretty soon I reckon. The first acceptance last year was on the 17th... I am too getting a bit anxious.
stats_applicant Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Many start coming out the first week of February. IIRC Washington and NC State were a bit earlier last year
jd24 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Just got the call from Minnesota too, congrats CommonerCoffee! I got a rejection from Washington yesterday (sorry I can't help those of you on the waitlist!) but I did get the interview/open house email from Harvard last Friday. Like you guys suspected the open house is only domestic students, so international applicants don't need to worry about not getting that email.
dynamic89 Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Great news jd24! Interview invitation from harvard sounds promising. I applied to harvard biostats too, but not too sure when they will start processing international applications. all the best with the interview and let us know how it goes.

Also, I didn't get that Harvard Biostat email and I'm a domestic student. Do you know if Harvard is only considering students they sent that email to?
jd24 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 I have no idea, sorry! If I find anything out I'll let you know
CommonerCoffee Posted January 14, 2015 Author Posted January 14, 2015 I have no idea, sorry! If I find anything out I'll let you know Thanks! Seems like I might be out of the running for Harvard by the sound of things though.
dynamic89 Posted January 14, 2015 Posted January 14, 2015 Not necessarily CommonerCoffee. I came across this post In previous years, Harvard invited a batch of applicants to their recruiting event (which has already happened this year), and then made some very late offers (to people who were not invited) in the first two weeks of April. So, not getting an invite to the recruiting event doesn't necessarily mean you've been rejected; you could just be on the waitlist. dynamic89 and CommonerCoffee 2
