I was notified yesterday that I was admitted w funding to U Washington Evans school. Their deadline for apps is Jan 15th. I am kinda caught off guard. I don't think they have rolling admissions so I didn't think I would hear until March. Is it not unusual to hear back this early, or to hear before the deadline?

I was also admitted with some funding yesterday. I was extremely surprised because just a few days before I had received an email from the Director of Admissions and he told me to expect an email until around mid-March. I was in Peace Corps, and the official website stated that to be considered for the Coverdell Fellowship (for RPCVs), the application had to be turned in by December 15. Strangely enough, I was told this wasn't the case when I spoke to someone from the school in person, and that the date was still January 15. In any case, I had all of my materials together, soI met that deadline, which I suppose is how they were able to respond so quickly. I assume you turned in your application fairly early as well. I don't think it's normal to get a response this soon, but I'm honestly not sure.

If you look at posts from previous years, there seem to be a significant amount of people complaining about hearing back later from Evans than every other school. Perhaps they are responding earlier now in order to combat how negatively some applicants reacted in the past for not receiving word until late in April. (I saw a post where someone basically flat out said they didn't want to attend because they heard back so late.)  Again, I don't really know. Just speculation.

In any case, I'm not going to complain! I'm very happy about this news and I will definitely be attending. It's nice to not have to sit around wondering for the next two months.

Congratulations to you, as well! Do you think you'll be accepting?

Hey guys,

Seems I was in the same email batch (and a PCV too!). I was accepted but no mention of funding. Kinda seems strange to me - being accepted so early but not being offered any aid package. Anyway, I'm gonna email them soon to see if I'm still being considered for that. Congrats to you both though! Hopefully I'll be able to join you.

That's so crazy! That's awesome. Now it's just going to be a long wait to hear back from the other schools. I doubt we get this lucky again!

Congrats on the acceptance, Dan! Hopefully they'll find some funding for you.

Congrats to all of you! I got an email too - with funding as well! I was also super surprised since I had only turned in my app 3 weeks prior and was even surprised that I got a merit scholarship since my academics in undergrad were not very strong and I did not have an academic LOR - perhaps I made up for it with my GRE scores, resume, and SOP? I did not do Peace Corps but am currently serving in AmeriCorps.

I actually started this thread in Waiting It Out -

DanP - It seems like maybe the international applicants may be getting info about funding separately? freeverse commented in the thread in the link above also got in as an international applicant and did not hear back about funding but it seems weird that the rest of us who heard back got funding.

Nocho - I will be accepting as well! I'm not bothering to wait to hear back from any other schools since Evans was my first choice and the funding makes my choice even easier!

Can I ask when you guys submitted your applications? Evans is the last school I'm applying to and unfortunately I've had to push back finishing up my statement for it because of traveling for work, but I plan on getting everything submitted today.

Thanks and congratulations!

I submitted mine on 12/19. Good luck! :)

I wrote in a previous post about the deadline for fellowships, which was (or used to be?) December 15. I turned it in by then. Best of luck finishing up.

Yepp, DanP, I got notified too and no mention of funding. I did mail them asking about it but they haven't responded yet. Any luck on your end?

Hey freeverse, i emailed too but no reply yet. Im not an international student - just a peace corps volunteer overseas right now so i dunno about that theory, but my current thinking is they wouldnt have accepted us so early if they werent going to make a competitive offer at some point. I think it'll come, as it is still very early. Im sure Barry will get back to us one way or another ths week.

Before I had submitted my application, I received an email from Evans stating that they were already reviewing applications and to still submit my application before the deadline of Jan 15th.  Now i am wondering if they just wanted the extra $85....

Congratulations! Make sure to add to the results page.

Wait, are y'all applying to the MPA program? That makes sense that they would be admitting students ahead of the application deadline.

Anyone else find out yesterday? I am so excited! I definitely was not expecting to hear back so soon after submitting my app so close to the deadline. And on a Tuesday! I can't wait to attend the admitted students day!

I've really been hoping to hear from Evans soon since others have, but I haven't heard anything from them yet :(

How did they notify you?

EDIT: Just kidding, I just logged in to do a status check and was offered admission!! This is my first acceptance and I'm so excited!

Does anyone know how to find out about funding?

Yes, I haven't heard anything about funding either! It will be good to know since Id be paying out of state tuition.

Same here. Though Evans seems awesome, I just don't see myself being to make $70k+ in tuition plus two years of Seattle living expenses work. That's like $110k in debt for an MPA :/

I'm still hopeful for funding, and I'm very interested in the possibility of getting an assistantship position as well. If anyone knows anything about the process of getting an assistantship at Evans is, that information would be greatly appreciated.

Also got accepted yesterday evening via email. No word on funding yet either, which is a bit discouraging, but time shall tell...

I wrote the school a couple weeks ago after I was admitted in hopes of finding out some information about assistantships, but not one has responded. I've tried to talk to several people but it's hard to get any information for some reason (probably because they are just very busy). I don't know if assistantships mostly go to second year students or if it's easier to apply once you are enrolled.

I went to the Graduate Funding Information Service at the school and was basically told to use their website when searching for jobs, assistantships, fellowships, etc. The website, in regards to assistantships specifically, instructs you to contact individual departments. The process varies with each department, which is pretty frustrating when it's difficult to get a response from anyone.

Congrats to those of you who are getting accepted!

Yeah I've been trying for a month now to get an idea where I stand on funding, but so far but my email and phone messages have garnered no response. Glad to see i'm not the only one having difficulties.

I called and left a message with Barry yesterday asking about funding, but I understand they're probably extremely busy in the admissions office.

Anyone else have any updates re: funding or acceptances today?

Not sure how this will apply to you guys as I'm an international student, but I emailed Barry again (didn't receive a response to my first email) and got a prompt reply the 2nd time around. Basically they're not making funding offers to everyone who's been accepted. Any funding offers are communicated at the time of admissions decision - but it may be different for domestic students.

Thanks for the update.

That's a bummer for me. Not only did I not hear anything about funding, I didn't even receive an acceptance email. I just randomly checked my status on the website and saw I was accepted. Evans sounds like a great program, but unfortunately I can't afford it without funding. I just wish I would hear back from their department to hear definitively "no funding" so I could move on.

Yikes. Like MJA87, that's a bit of a bummer for me. Evans has possibly become my top choice after starting this whole waiting game, but it is so expensive for an MPA degree. I'll have to wait and see if I receive any other offers and continue saving in the interim!

I just checked my email on my laptop, and for some reason the acceptance doesn't show up in my inbox. When I first found out, I had checked my email on my phone. Even after clicking "move to inbox" on my laptop, it still doesn't show up for some reason, yet it's there on my phone. That could be why you didn't see an email!

Wow, you're totally right. I just searched "Evans" and found the acceptance email. That's very strange.

Anyways, still no mention of funding :(
