Thought I'd get the ball rolling on the SJSU 2015 application season. The last couple of years seemed to have a good amount of traffic, so wanted to see if anyone's applying for this coming fall. I'm from the bay area so SJSU would be a easy commute, plus they have a pretty great MSW program. Turned in my completed application on 12/15, so now the wait.

Was this anyone's first choice? Why?

Hello!

I also applied to SJSU's MSW program. It was my first and only choice. I am finishing up my BASW at SJSU right now and it is a great program that I love. There are great community connections and resources and I want to continue working in Santa Clara County.

I applied to sjsu as well and it's one of my top choices. I previously worked in sj with foster youth and I love all of the community and supportive resources they have for them.If I get in I'll be really excited to get back there.

Is anyone applying for the title iv stipend??

I applied here as well. The website did not state anything about mailing in my transcript by the January 20th deadline. I just checked my status and they said they need it and it was due Jan 20th. I just put in for my college to mail them the transcript, I hope SJSU still accept's my application.

I'm also applying for SJSU!  I am currently finishing my BA at another school in the bay and would love to stay here.  I'm also applying to schools in southern California and schools in Chicago (where I'm from).  Does anyone know about what time the admissions decisions start coming out?

Not soon enough. I'm guessing sometime in April. This is the only program I applied to in NorCal and have heard great things about it. Not applying for the iv stipend but if I do get in and decide to go, I will be applying for the mental health stipend my second year since health/mental health is more my focus. I hear it's a pretty hard program to get into since they focus a lot on related social work experience. I'm only coming in with 2 years part-time total across one paid job, one internship and one volunteer. Hope it's enough.

Hey Cali_Coast,

it looks like I have applied to a lot of the same schools as you and I was wondering when did you hear back from USC? Also which deadline did you apply for?

thanks

Ameliaabuzuhri - I applied a week after the priority deadline and heard back from them on 1/23 for the 2 year program.

Hi!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 2014-2015 is the last year that the mental health stipend is available. Santa Clara county ended it :( I was planning on applying for it too and I'm bummed.

That is bad news. Thankfully SJSU tuition isn't so high as to deter me from accepting if I do get in. The bay area has some great opportunities when it comes to health/mental health concentration.

Hi everyone! ! I am currently enrolled in the MSW program at SJSU and I'm finishing up my first year. I am enrolled in the 2 yr program so I graduate in May 2016!! I am reaching out to you all because I was once in your position and part of his thread participating in discussions as I waited for my denial/acceptance letter from the program. I was accepted in the first wk of April 2014.

I have horrible news to relay!! Our campus President has intentions in further reducing our MSW program by ONLY ACCEPTING a total of 60 applicants and approximately 400 students apply! This means 20 will be accepted for title iV-E, 20 for part time and 20 for full time!!!! We have a rally scheduled to take place at our SJSU campus in front of Tower Hall Friday, Feb 20th at 4p. Media will be there, I highly encourage for you to come if possible! I am back on this thread to keep you up to date because I sympathize with you all. I would have appreciated someone in the program to have been apart of this thread to give me insider info. APPLY AT OTHER SCHOOL IF POSSIBLE TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCEs IN START ING an MSW program soon!!!

I'll be in touch!

Later, I'll share our Facebook pgs for you to join and follow up on latest news with our program.

Glad to hear you attend SJSU!

Make sure to attend our rally on Friday, Feb 20th in front of the tower lawn to protest against the outrageous intention of our school president wanting to drastically reduce the MSW program to allocate that cut backs into engineering and business majors. The president sees those 2 majors are more important than social work. Over the yrs, social work has reduced in the amount of students it accepts..for fall 2014, only 120 students were accepted, and I was one of them. Now, for Fall 2015 the president was to reduce that by HALF!!!!!!

I just received an email from Professor Goldman that I've been accepted!! You all should hear back any day now! All of my documents were submitted 1/14. Good luck everyone! In case anyone is wondering, the status online still says 'referred to Grad Department.'

Just curious to all those that got an acceptance. What time did you guys receive the call? Also was anyone accepted to the Mental Health program?

I got the call around 3, and I was accepted to the Mental Health program. I had to decline though, unfortunately. It's supposed to be a great program, so good luck!

Hi, I've been on these threads a lot these past months and finally have decided to post!

I was rejected from UCB early March and accepted SJSU 3/17 to the mental health program. Looking forward to starting and meeting some of you!! Has anyone gotten a physical letter of acceptance yet?

I am still waiting to find out about admission. Do you guys think that I should just assume I have been rejected?
