Decisions 2015

Probably! I definitely need to bolster my languages (I have Latin, Middle English and one semester of French and German that I'd like to continue with) for my DPhil or PhD. It also seems like it would be the more practical choice since I'm a undergrad history major, and I wouldn't want to spend time playing catch up in other fields instead of broadening and refining my existing knowledge.

If I may, I'd like to jump in and take Georgetown's side here. I'm currently finishing up my MA program at one of its competitor schools here in DC, waiting to move to your current town (Philly) to begin my history PhD at UPenn. As someone who is very passionate to the point of nerdiness about my topic (which we presumably all are), it's been really good to be in a city like DC where you're constantly given a reality-check about your topic. You're always forced to think about how your research is connected to current events and how the broader public will relate to what you are working on. For some, that might be a negative, but for me, it's been really helpful in thinking about what I want to research. This is one of the reasons I'll be travelling back here fairly frequently during my program.

Thanks for the advice! I'm actually at UPenn now so feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the area! Our history dept is great- I'm a bit biased though.

That's so exciting, Heimat!! My MA program just posted the class list for fall and I'm drooling over it, they of course decided to offer courses I would kill to take right when I'm leaving.

I got a weird email from one of the first programs I declined congratulating me for accepting the offer of admission (??) and when I replied that I had actually declined the offer they wrote back something like "we have noted your withdrawal of you previous decision." Wait, what?

You'll register at orientation, which is the week before class begins.

I assume your adivser is Dr. Meyers?

Yup!

I'm surprised class registration is so late.

Sounds exciting!! I only wish I could take a peek at the course's reading list, but that would be cheating
