  1. I still haven't heard anything either. I suppose that probably means I didn't get it.
  2. I'm still awaiting confirmation either way for the intensive language. I hope my language skills were not considered too strong. (What a weird thing to be worried about)
  3. I'm still in the game too Horb. I haven't heard anything via the portal or email. Did they respond to your email?
  4. So not for the intensive language then?
  5. How does one know if one is a "priority candidate?"
  6. Where do you find the stats for things like that?
  7. That makes buying tickets kind of tight, doesn't it? Do you remember what school you put down?
  8. Hi all. I'm applying for the intensive language scholarship and I still have "selection made" in my portal. I guess we'll be waiting a bit still huh?
  9. I actually think that would make for a fascinating panel mvlchicago.
  10. I was wondering if anyone out there had a good history of science reading list. I've recently changed my research focus to the history of anthropology and I'm building a comps field list. Especially helpful would be history of science stuff in a German context. Thanks.
  11. It just means we'll all have to do it next year!
  12. Hi all. Last year (about 75 pages back give or take) we talked about meeting up at AHA. Is anyone going and still interested in doing that? I'll be there. It'd be great to chat about our experiences.
  13. Hello, everyone! Is anyone going to AHA? I've already got my plane tickets and registration fees taken care of, but the hotels are a bit pricey. If you're going, would anyone be willing to share a room to split the cost?
  14. Hi Arspring, The fall has been fantastic! Beautiful weather. We did have some snow right before Thanksgiving, but we haven't gotten any since. They cleared off the streets before 6:00AM so driving was not an issue. It has been somewhat rainy. The city itself is beautiful and there are lots of things to do both at the University and in the surrounding areas. Even better, the city is quite walkable. I also moved from a place with mild winters (Texas) and so far I've really enjoyed the change. Let me know if you have other questions.
  15. Still digging over here. I love the work, but I do find it challenging to balance class work, teaching and my own research. I think my time management skills could stand to improve. Glad to hear everyone's semesters are going well.
  16. I'm applying for the PhD level Intensive language course. Good luck
  17. This all makes quite a bit of sense. Thanks!
  18. Tell me about it mvlchicago. This semester has flown by. On a different note, what do you do if you think you found a dissertation topic but then you find a dissertation written in 2008 with a similar focus, though not on the same biographic material?
  19. Hello. I'm also applying for the intensive language grant. I agree Horb that the portal is incredibly confusing. Did you every find out if we needed to use the actual reference form on the portal or if my letter writer can write her recommendation on school letterhead?
  20. Not directly in my theory course. I'm in a colonialism readings course and we read both "Can the Subaltern Speak?" and Selected Subaltern Studies.
  21. Me either TMP. We're reading a book a week by different theorists: Marx, Weber, Foucault, Bourdieu, etc. It's a great class if intense on the reading side.
  22. I would actually love for people to share their methods/theory book lists on this forum. It's really fascinating to me to see what different schools are assigning for those type of courses
  23. How's everyone doing? It's only three weeks in and already the semester is crazy!
