I started classes yesterday. So far so good with both teaching and learning. Hope everyone has a great start to their semesters! I also still hate the new layout.
-
I'm not sure I love this new layout...

Yay Ashiepoo! I'm sure your excitement is growing by the day.
-
you will, mvlchicago, you will

I agree Ashiepoo! I definitely hope we all keep in touch. I have orientation from the 19-21 and I can't wait. Tomorrow I'm heading to campus to get my id card and get "official"

I made it to Iowa! Now it's time to buckle down and get my pre-semester work done.

Dr. Karsteiner is extremely friendly and helpful. I thought Dr. Quatert was retiring soon, but I could be wrong.

I have 2 days (after today) left at work, I am a week away from moving up to Iowa, and a month way from orientation. It's happening!

Thanks Canuck. My wife and I actually found a place out in Tiffin. -
That's great Maelia! I'm sure they'll appreciate it. 29 days until I leave for Iowa!

There are funding issues with LSU as well. Jindal and the LA legislature slashed higher ed spending to the bone.

That sounds like fun Ashiepoo. What do you get to lecture on? In other news, we found a place to live in Iowa. Things are falling into place.
-
That's an awful lot of showings. We're currently on the other end looking at new homes for our move.

Apartment hunting around Texas State

Hello! I live in San Antonio (about 30 minutes from San Marcos). There are lots of smaller cities surrounding San Marcos that may have rentals available. Additionally, you may be able to rent a house. I know this is pretty vague but zillow is a good place to start. Good luck. -

I really hope so. My wife is travelling to Iowa City today and we've already located about 6 properties to look into. This is an oddly quiet forum space! -
You can also look at CU Boulder. They are exceptionally strong in environmental history.

While not quite as hot as India, I'm from Texas where we get into multiple 100 degree days for a long time (June through August typically). I'm looking forward to some cooler weather. Congratulations on your visa. -
That's fantastic Chiqui! Congratulations to your husband. My wife found a job in Iowa City at the University. She's moving up there a week from Tuesday. It's getting real around here.

Yeah. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to take another trip up there. Hopefully more people will chime in about moving to Iowa City. -
Hello. I actually haven't gone back since my initial visit in March. My wife is moving up there in a few weeks as she starts at her new job. I've gone through housing ads on Zillow, craigslist, etc and we have some decent leads. If you are looking for just yourself there seem to be lots of options, especially if you don't have pets. That seems to be one of the most difficult parts about the rental market in the city. As for other information, I don't have much. Anyone else out there?
