Kleio_77 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I just received an email that stated I cannot graduate this winter. I am missing one senior level option to graduate (undergrad), and so I enrolled in a senior level option for summer (May-June). I will then be fine and able to graduate successfully. However, I have already submitted all of my applications and have even received news from one school that there is a lot of interest in my file. I don't see this being a problem, or I hope it isn't... but how do I go about notifying the schools that I applied too? Do I wait until the decisions have been made? Or do I notify the graduate coordinators asap? Also - I am Canadian and from what I have been told, admissions committees for the programs I applied to are meeting during this month.
peachypie Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 I don't think you need to say anything unless your programs will want you to have matriculated by June and entering into their program. They'll want a copy of your official transcript and graduation before you are able to enroll officially but that usually isn't due until just about beginning classes/getting paid. You should be fine. If anyone asks I wouldn't NOT say something but at this point I don't think you need to contact adcomms to let them know about this.
annwyn Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Granted I am not from Canada, but I had this same problem when I started my MA program. I completed my requirements in the middle of August and started school in September with no issues. I had already been accepted and I just let the grad school know the situation. In my case they needed a final transcript that showed my degree before the start of class. I personally wouldn't worry about contacting all the schools to which you applied and would discuss it with the departments that you are interested in attending once they contact you. They may want to contact your current program to verify that you are on schedule to graduate in June. It shouldn't be a problem, I've known many a student in this situation. It seems to be less of a problem now that there are electronic transcript options. Best of luck!!
Tiggerise Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the responses! I asked several programs this at a grad school fair, before I settle on teachers college was going to apply to MSc but I needed more courses in that area. A lot of people end up taking a summer course and have an official graduation date of November. As long as your final transcript is in before your start date, you should be fine. However after you receive acceptances just make the schools aware of the change. Just want to add: Guelph and UVic were schools I talked to about this. Guest Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Yeah, it shouldn't be an issue. A friend of mine was admitted to a graduate program while planning to complete undergraduate requirements even through August. It wasn't until the end of Fall semester (December/January) that the school started getting upset that they didn't have all of the documentation, haha. I feel like most schools will want it September/October.
Kleio_77 Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Ok, thanks! I feel much better about my situation.
