Sophia Petrillo Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Congrats to those who received their acceptances already!!!!! I applied as well (but haven't heard) and was just wondering if anyone knows for sure yet that they will/will not be attending . I'm also wondering if all of the first round went out...so nerve wracking!!!! Wasn't expecting it to start this soon, lol!!
mimblewimble Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Hi, Sophia! I think the only way you would know is if you called admissions or someone else already called to ask. Anyone already do that? Best of luck to you!! I got an email today with my acceptance, but it seems like the TU Portal still hasn't updated for me. I wasn't expecting an answer either since the grad cafe results showed last year being late feb. I applied early January though, so I don't know if that makes a difference. Temple is pretty high up on my list since it is in state for me, but I definitely want to go visit. Anyone know if they are hosting an open house before I go ahead and contact them?
Sophia Petrillo Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 I did email them late yesterday (voicemail was full, lol) so hopefully I'll hear something soon...bad weather today so I'm not expecting too much today...my university is closed. I went to an open house last year and recall they did have information sessions every month or so. I also recall contacting Dawn Dandridge directly for that information & sign up for the SLP department tour/info only. I would be commuting so I did not go to a general open house. Congrats
Arytenoid222 Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Congratulations mimblewimble and best of luck, Sophia! I hope you hear good news soon! I received an acceptance email from Temple yesterday afternoon Do either of you/any of you know anything about Temple offering funding or hosting open houses in the spring? I'm from Illinois and definitely would like to visit and find out more before committing. Sophia, were the informational sessions you mentioned attending for prospective graduate students? Also, if anyone has any positive or negative impressions or accounts of the program, I would really appreciate hearing them! Thanks!
mimblewimble Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 @Sophia Thanks Crossing my fingers for good news for you! @Arytenoid First off, awesome username and congrats! I'm almost positive that Temple does not offer funding, but that is not something I heard directly from the current admissions and would need to be confirmed. My impression of the program is that they are good and they know they are good (very Philadelphia-like) which is not necessarily a bad thing but it can be construed negatively. I also know someone who came through the program, loved it, and they are doing amazing things. Definitely thinking a visit is very important before making a decision, since where you fit and mesh well personality wise is an important aspect as well.
Sophia Petrillo Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 There is definitely no funding....that was made clear in the session. Program is great and highly regarded but the location is a bit sketchy if you will be staying on or close to campus. Definitely suggest checking in the housing forum for information on that part. Congrats everyone!!!!
mimblewimble Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) I agree with double checking in the housing forum, although I know a few people that went there for undergrad, and while it is true that the area is not the best, everyone who I've talked to feels that there are places (on campus and off) where you'll never have a problem, but others places where it's definitely shady. However, my friend has even mentioned that she feels safe and very seldom doesn't. Seems like once you get to know the area along with the safety precautions set in place by the school (police, emergency police boxes etc), it shouldn't be a big issue. I felt totally safe when I went to the session because there is a parking lot and off street parking literally right next to the SLP building. But, for example, going one block the wrong way could put you in a bad area. That's why it's important to get the feel for yourself if you can visit. I wouldn't let that dissuade your descision because it is such a great school but just be aware.

I'm also wondering if all of the first round went out...so nerve wracking!!!! Wasn't expecting it to start this soon, lol!! I am wondering the same thing! Does anyone have an answer if the entire first round went out? Hate this waiting game. Applied to: University of South Florida, William Patterson, New York Medical College, The College of Saint Rose, Long Island University-Post, Duquesne University, Edinboro University, Temple University, LaSalle University, University of Houston, University of Texas-El Paso, Radford University, Longwood University, Old Dominion University, Southern CT State University Awaiting on 16 schools for Summer/Fall Admission
Sophia Petrillo Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 For those accepted, did your portal change yet? If you go under your application status in application tab at top, does it say accepted? Mine says "completed ready for review" . I'm just trying to figure out if all the first round went out do I can either keep checking obsessively, lol, or breathe for another few weeks.
mimblewimble Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Mine still only says complete and awaiting a decision :\
mimblewimble Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Noooo I'm sorry to hear but remember - it only takes one!
mas810 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I haven't heard anything! I'm starting to get nervous. What does it mean if mine still hasn't gone out? IF the rejections and acceptances seem to have been delivered. Perhaps, I was wait listed. I have no idea!
Sophia Petrillo Posted February 18, 2015 Author Posted February 18, 2015 I didn't receive an email...just saw it updated on the admissions tab of the portal .
mas810 Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I'll keep looking so far nothing. I don't know what that means.
koukla19 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 So did anyone else have their description changed to "check your application status" and have their status still say "complete and ready for review?" I contacted Speech Admissions and she seemed confused and assured me that they still didnt make their decision yet. Okay, then why did the description change to tell me to check my application status? This is torture.
slplindsay Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Hey everyone, I'm new to this site, still trying to figure out how this all works. I also applied to mostly PA schools. Temple, my portal still says "complete and ready for review." This wait is killing me especially as the results page fills with Temple acceptances and rejections. Should I call them? As far as La Salle goes, has anyone heard anything? I feel like without having a portal to check I'm lost. Unless I screwed up and should have a portal to check?? I don't know, I feel very panicky and obsessive right now! Any insight would be great. I applied to Temple, La Salle, Duquesne, and Clarion (my undergrad). High GPA, low GRE, lots of campus involvement Good Luck to everyone, only a couple more months of torture!!!

I wouldn't be worried about it, as I believe they send out their acceptances in waves. I would see it as a good sign that you're not one of the people already rejected! As for La Salle, I applied there too... have not heard one thing from them since submitting my application on csdcas. slplindsay 1
slplindsay Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Ok great, thanks so much. It's encouraging to hear people in the same boat! Especially with La Salle since there has been nothing from them yet. TORTURE. Thanks again though
Sophia Petrillo Posted February 21, 2015 Author Posted February 21, 2015 I emailed LaSalle and asked if there was any way to check online... I got a very "terse" email that I just have to wait. looming at history, it seems they start to send out stuff via snail mail the beginning of March.

Well at least the lady didn't act like she was going to help you on the phone and then blatantly hang up on you. Temple is beyond RUDE. Honestly, if I paid all that money to send you my application money with gre's and all other fees you SHOULD answer all questions. Edited February 23, 2015 by koukla19
mas810 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 I agree! I tried e-mailing Temple haven't heard a thing and portal still says complete and ready for review. I have no idea!
ckoz84 Posted February 24, 2015 Posted February 24, 2015 (edited) A word about the area around Temple being "sketchy" - I know many people have that sentiment, so no judgements, but it was definitely not my experience (I lived in Philly for 3 years, 1 in that neighborhood). Not to get too touchy, but I feel like sometimes when a neighborhood is poorer or there are a lot of people of color living there, that sometimes translates in people's minds to "unsafe." When you look past those stereotypes, there's definitely more to the neighboorhood. Just my two cents... *** Just saw that there was more discussion on this than I realized. You guys pretty much had it covered. Still standing by what I said, though. Edited February 24, 2015 by ckoz84 timberlake and alexagrace 2
