drdunlap Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I have applied to a Masters program at several schools and already been rejected by one of them. This has, of course, sent me into what I'll call "Max Panic Mode." One of my remaining schools is the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I believe they have rolling admissions(?) and the application is first handled by the Office of Graduate Education before being sent off to the department for review. I had been in touch with someone from the Office of Graduate Education to make sure all was well and I (not so) recently got an email saying that my application had been forwarded to the department for review. In the same email, there was a line suggesting I email the department directly for the "status of my file" as "additional documents may be required." I'm sure I sent in everything required and it's long past the deadline anyway but I can't help wanting to give in and scratch the itch by sending the department an email. Does anyone have any advice for a situation like this? I feel like it's usually best just to wait it out unless there is some particularly pressing matter to deal with but, like I said, Max Panic Mode! (I received said email on January 29th.)
Sujie Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 If they are interested in your application, your email won't change anything, unless you are going to flood them with you inquiries)) I say send a short email and calm down! btw I sent emails to several schools I've applied to, don't think it did any harm. MathCat Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I agree with Sujie - send it if it will make you feel better. But, I don't think there is any need to worry. They probably just say that because departments have different requirements for applications - they don't want to be the ones responsible for saying everything the department wants is there, since there might be something special that department wants.
