Found out I made the waitlist this morning! :)  Let's be honest, I really didn't expect to make first-round admission after reading everyone's background on here.  Did anyone else receive news this morning? Does anyone happen to know how many people are typically put on the waitlist, and how well they have fared in being admitted historically?

For anyone interested, I was notified of unofficial admittance on March 10th and of my official offer from FGPA yesterday, both via email. Funding is $5000/year in scholarships and no assistantships. I've got a largely unrelated BA Joint Honours, GPA 3.84, a handful of international language scholarships, a tiny of bit of research experience in an unrelated field, regular DND employment (student labour, mind), and what I might assume were solid letters of reference. My SOP was quite focused and I think that helped.

Looking forward to seeing some of you in the fall!

Finally got my offical NPSIA offer today! :)

No funding, as expected, but still disappointing :'(. If it doesn't say you have funding on the letter, there is no funding, riiiight?? (just checking haha).

Good luck to those on the waitlist! I'm sure you'll be hearing back soon!

Funding is not included on the letters of admission anymore. To find out funding you have to go you have to go to the graduate admissions tab, then view application details, then view offer of admission, and it will have a full breakdown of any awards you may have gotten.

I hope that that may help you!

Thanks you two! I will definitely be re-applying in the future.

Until then, best of luck to us all on our new adventures! (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

Thanks myfirstgoose, I did check there, no awards :(. It's good to know for sure though- it's confusing searching for awards when they don't exist anywhere!! It would be harsh, but at least more clear, if it said "no funding" where the awards are usually listed.

Oh well, talking to my American friends makes me feel grateful for the tuition fees at Carleton/Canada. :)

I completely understand! I'm originally from California, and watching my friends take out massive loans to pay for UG and Grad school seems far too excessive!

Congrats on your acceptance!

Thanks :D I'm very excited to head to Ottawa, whether it's for NPSIA or GSPIA :)

Congrats to those who received their acceptance letters!

I'm getting a little nervous myself. As anyone applied for the MIPIS program? If so, have you heard back from the department yet?

Hey everyone!

Congrats on all your acceptances.

I am hoping someone can offer me some advice on my situation. My application for NPSIA was waitlisted. When I didn't receive the initial acceptance email I messaged Tabbatha and asked whether or not I was rejected. She responded saying I was placed on hold but I still have a "very good" chance of being admitted and she would be in touch with me in April.

Do you think I should take this as a good sign or do you think she says this to everyone? I would like to think that she would only say that to me if she knew I was relatively high on the waitlist but I am afraid she just says that to everyone so they stop emailing her.

What do you think? Would you take it as a good sign?

Odessa-- Tabbatha told me that she would be following up with me in May, so I definitely think you should take what she said as a good sign!  Is anyone else on the waitlist able to provide feedback?

Hey! I was told in a mass email sent out on March 13 that Tabbatha would be in touch in April, "likely mid to late" with an update on second round admissions, so it sounds like the waitlist notices are going out in waves with different dates for anticipated updates. It could just mean they're waitlisting throughout the first round and adding a few weeks of buffer time for people to hear back between each wave of notices (i.e. the differences mean nothing). It could also mean the waitlist is ranked into sections and the earlier you hear back, the better. I don't think there's a way to know for certain yet.

But either way! People with GSPIA acceptances will have to answer back quite early in April, and I imagine many people applied to both schools. They're all going to want to know for sure by then if they should go ahead with GSPIA/some other school. if you don't hear back before April, Odessa, you should call or email NPSIA in the first week and see what's going on!

Hi guys!

I just wanted to let you know I got admitted to UOttawa's GSPIA last friday! As an international student this is huge for me and my future plans! :)

I got no funding (or at least the admission offer didn't state anything regarding that) but nevertheless I'm really happy about the news, since this means that next Fall I will probably be moving to Ottawa to pursue Graduate Studies.

Now I'm just waiting to see if I get admitted to NPSIA. I e-mailed Tabbatha today to find out what is the status of my admission request. I have until April 16th to answer back to GSPIA, so I hope to get an answer from Carleton before then.

Best of luck to those of us who are still waiting and congrats to everyone who has received admission offers! I really hope to meet some of you soon.

Hello again,

Can someone explain what 'Scholarship Departmental 2' means? Is this a scholarship package that includes a TAship and RAship?

Scholarship Departmental 2 is just additional funding. A TA position would show up as "Teaching Assistant."

Hope that helps!

Thank you!

So does that mean that I am not offered a TAship but just a scholarship? I am little surprised as the scholarship I was awarded is over $10,000. I had assumed that it included a TAship or RAship.

Thanks for the input, guys!

When I emailed Tabbatha she said that she *might* have an update for me by this end of this month. I am hoping this means that the admissions committee has already started reviewing the remaining applicants.

I have to respond to GSPIA by April 7th so I will probably take your advice and call NPSIA next week. I'm very content with going to GSPIA but I still want to know if I have an offer from NPSIA before I make my decision. Does anyone know if NPSIA allocates funding to students in the second round? Or is funding only offered to first round students?

Thanks! :)

I just received clarification from Tabbatha about the April/May email thing-- she answered, "That is an error on my part.  While there is a chance that applicants will hear info sooner, I have erred on the side of caution and indicated May, but I am hoping I will have an update in April."

I believe most applicants were given until March 31st to accept their first-round offers?  So perhaps we can expect a response in early April.

correct. I'm considering rejecting the offer so that is one possible spot opening up! I'm guessing there will be others so hopefully some of you get some good news come April
