Holly44 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Hey guys! Ok, so I have a skype interview next week and have never done one before. I unfortunately don't have accessible wifi at my house so I was thinking of maybe going to a starbucks or something to do the interview. Would this look unprofessional? I just don't want to be screwed because my connection causes a lag in the video feed.
kayyyyy_ Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Personally, I would scope out a local library. Sometimes they have rooms in the back corners that you can rent out. I would do that :] it will look like you're in your house.
moosemoose Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I would worry about being interrupted or the interviewer having trouble hearing me at someplace busy like Starbucks. Definitely see if your library has private rooms, that would be a much better place in my opinion.
EthanL Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Library for sure. Or even a local university campus.
MonicaSLP Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Ditto library. Maybe a local college has a room in the library for you to use. Or use a friends house. Or someone's office (friend, family, SLP connection in private practice...), which will likely have a better connection.
Holly44 Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 Do public libraries usually have good internet connections? And most universities require that you be a student there to rent rooms or I would totally do that. Hmm, maybe it would just be easier to go to a friend's house or something. Thanks for the suggestions guys!!
EthanL Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 My public library has a pretty decent connection. And there are a number of libraries at my university, none of which require a student ID to access. An ID is required to reserve a room, but there are plenty of relatively isolated places I to sit for an interview. Might be worth checking out.
