Hello guys,

For nearly 2 weeks after this very encouraging email and yet, I have not heard or received anything official. I am starting to wonder whether I should just accept my other offer or keep on waiting. However, for the benefit of the doubt, I would like to hear from you guys... what do you think? I have removed some of the details to remain anonymous..lol....

Dear _________________________,

Although you will shortly receive this information directly from the Graduate School, I am pleased to inform you at once that the Admissions Committee has recommended that you be admitted to the Doctoral program in________________ starting in the fall semester of 2015. The formal admission decision will be made by the Dean of the Graduate School.

Please let us know at your earliest convenience whether you will accept the offer or not. If you have any questions about the program, please don't hesitate to contact me.  I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

______________________________________"

So, should I keep waiting or give them a call already?

If you've been recommended for admission, then there's nothing to worry about. Official letters take time. As the poster above said, if this is your top choice then go ahead and accept it.

I received a similar email. About three weeks later, I got an invitation to an open house for accepted students and then a few days later I received an official email. It felt like forever! It took a while for the portal to be updated as well, to reflect my changed admission status. Still waiting on a letter by post (assuming they will actually send me one, everything seems paper-free these days!)

I'm in a similar position- but definitely wait for your official offer to come through before you accept. It stinks waiting for the wheels of bureaucracy to turn, but it's important to see the details of your funding or any admission stipulations that the admissions office may attach. Be patient and make sure everything is in line before accepting. You're already in, and that's the important part. Congratulations!

Received an informal admission from my future supervisor. This is the second week of waiting for an official letter.

Thanks for your kind and encouraging response you guys. Reading and sharing your response restored my sanity and makes me less anxious. Congrats for those who have been officially admitted and good luck for those who are still waiting.
