Emark
Hey everyone, I am attending NYU's admitted students welcome event next week and am wondering if anyone had any ideas about what the attire should be? Just some details, it is a breakfast with the faculty. Jeans seems too casual but I also don't want to be over dressed. My thoughts were dress pants and a nice blouse but I wanted to gage from a group what others thought? (I also hoped this thread could be helpful for anyone attending an admitted students event in this field). Thanks for any advice anyone can offer! moosemoose
My thoughts were dress pants and a nice blouse Sounds good! Better to be slightly over-dressed than under-dressed, in my opinion.
curtisma3
I had a similar question! Next week I am kind of doing a New England tour and I am visiting UMASS Amherst, Emerson, and MGH IHP for their open houses. The UMASS open house is more like an information session I think and it is only an hour in the morning so I was planning on looking nice but more casual. Emerson's is in the evening and I know there will be light refreshments and a chance to talk to faculty. MGH is hosting a 5 hour event with refreshments in the afternoon and desserts at the end of it. I am sure most of the faculty will be in attendance as well. I'm stressing about what to wear for all three haha since they all seem to be different. I don't want to be the only one dressed up but I definitely don't want to look under dressed either! ChatterBrain
I'd do a slightly dressy version of business casual: Tapered (cigarette, pixie) ankle-length pants, a cute blouse, maybe a tailored, light-weight blazer. Definitely flat or low (no more than a kitten heel), close-toed shoes. You could dress it up with pops of color and a fun accessory or two (colorful necklace or shoes) so you don't feel like you're going to the office. Congrats and have fun! jpiccolo
I had a program email me about the open house and they suggested that 'most students are most comfortable in 'business casual' but you're welcome to wear whatever is best for you.' It might depend on how long and intense your open house is. If it's super short like an hour I wouldn't worry as much. Or if you'll be walking around campus a lot. I might bring my khakis or black pants and be a step up from jeans. I'd avoid sweatpants and just look relatively professional (even in jeans) and you're probably fine. Holly44
I think even dark denim jeans would be fine if you wear it with a nice blouse or sweater. At the old place I used to intern I would often wear jeans and a plain colored sweater and throw on infinity scarf to make the whole look seem more professional. Add some ballet flats or boots and you're good to go!
