Hey guys, for those of us looking for opportunities to publish our work, I thought I'd share this open call. The deadline is fairly soon...April 20, 2015.

This is a publication run by artists. The purpose of the publication is to expose the work of talented artists to galleries that might not otherwise be exposed to them .

For those who haven't found out about their applications yet, good luck! May the odds be ever in your favor.

This type of a thing is a scam. Don't submit.

Those magazines will go straight to the garbage at Art Basel (hopefully the recycling bin actually)

Just as you should never have to pay to be exhibited in a gallery, you should never have to pay to be published. It's the same as a vanity gallery.

I thought the same thing when I saw the $350 publication fee.  An application fee of $30 or $40 is reasonable, but $350 is extortionate.

Studio visit magazine obviously - it's not actually juried by anyone credible and then you have to pay for a publication fee. It's the exact same thing as the first opportunity.

New American paintings is much more legitimate - the last issue was juried by Michelle grabner who curated the most recent Whitney biennial. You pay an entry fee but then there is nothing else if you are selected. I mean, it's a real competition. I think that if you had it on your cv the response would be at worst neutral and likely positive.

The other two things are scams. Don't enter them, don't put them on your cv, don't empower people who are operating under false pretenses. Spend your money on art supplies or cute clothes for going to gallery openings: those will help you more. Srsly
